Which trim does a window trim chrome delete cover?
It covers the bright trim that frames the side glass: the surrounds along the top and sides of the door windows, and the belt line strip that runs along the bottom edge of the glass on top of each door. Everything else bright on the car belongs to one of the other two chrome delete packages.
| Trim | Where it is | Package |
|---|---|---|
| Window surrounds | Framing the side glass along the roofline and pillars | Window trim |
| Belt line trim | Along the bottom of the side windows, where the glass drops into the door | Window trim |
| Grille surround and bars, badges, bumper trim | Front and rear of the car | Front and rear |
| Door handles, mirror caps, roof rails, remaining bright work | Around the body | Full blackout |
The trim is wrapped in black cast vinyl that conforms around the trim’s curves and edges, and the paint around it is left alone.
Why does window trim change the look of a car so much?
On a car that has it, chrome window trim is the brightest line along the side, sitting at eye level and outlining every window. Turn it black and the glass, pillars and trim merge into one dark band, so the eye goes to the body colour instead.
Carmakers do the same thing on their darker special editions. When BMW announced the 2021 X7 Dark Shadow Edition, its U.S. press release listed “Extended Shadowline high-gloss black trim” on the “door window trim, B- and C-pillar covers, side-mirror base covers and roof rails, kidney grille and air breather trim”, with the window trim first. The BMW M8 Competition in the photo on this page left the shop with a full chrome delete, window surrounds included.
Should window trim be gloss black or satin black?
Choose gloss black if the car already has gloss black parts, like a glass roof, a gloss black grille or piano-black pillar covers, and satin black if you want the trim to sit quietly next to the black plastic trim most modern cars already have. Satin also hides fingerprints better.
| Finish | Looks like | Best match for |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss black | High shine, close to black glass | Panoramic roofs, gloss black roofs and grilles |
| Satin black | Low sheen, close to factory black plastic | Unpainted black trim, cars that get touched a lot around the doors |
The shop holds samples of both against your car before you choose. If a black roof is also on the list, keep the two in the same finish; roof wraps come in the same gloss and satin films.
How long does blacked-out window trim last through Fraser Valley winters?
The shop’s estimate is that vinyl on trim holds up roughly as well as vinyl on a body panel, which it puts at five years or more if the car is looked after. The belt line is the exception, because it sits right where an ice scraper runs off the bottom of the side glass, and trim that gets scraped every winter shows wear sooner.
Winters here bring enough snow that a scraper earns its place in the car. The federal climate normals for Abbotsford, covering 1981 to 2010, put average snowfall at 55.2 cm a year. 3M’s 2080 product bulletin warns that scratches and abrasion marks in its film “may not be able to be worked out”, so clear the bottom of the glass gently, let the car’s heat loosen ice at the edges, and keep the scraper’s corner off the trim.
On the vinyl itself, the shop’s published term is a 5-year manufacturer warranty, and it’s about the film: 3M’s warranty card for 2080, for example, covers yellowing, bubbling and cracking but not ordinary wear, so scraper scuffs are a care issue rather than a claim.
Can the chrome come back for resale or a lease return?
Yes. The vinyl comes off with heat and patience, and the original chrome trim is underneath. 3M describes its 2080 film as removable with heat or chemicals from most surfaces within the warranty period.
That makes window trim one of the easier changes to undo before a lease inspection or a private sale, and the car goes back to exactly the trim it was built with. It’s also why vinyl is the material of choice here: nothing is painted, sanded or glued that wasn’t glued before.
How do you book a window trim chrome delete in Langley?
Chrome delete is quoted per vehicle, since trim layouts vary so much between models. Send the year, make and model, a photo of the side of the car, and gloss or satin through the chrome delete quote form, or text 604 534 6433.
If you’re thinking past the windows, the chrome delete service page covers the grille and full blackout packages, and the vinyl wrap page covers roofs, hoods and full colour changes. Tint for the glass inside the trim is on the window tint page. The shop on the Langley Bypass, Unit 312 at number 20560, takes cars Monday to Saturday.
