What warranty comes with each service?
Four kinds of film carry a warranty, and the term depends on the film. The table lists each one as the shop publishes it.
| Service | Term | Backed by | Against |
|---|---|---|---|
| Window tint (LLumar ATC, IRX, AIR) | Lifetime | LLumar on the film (lifetime limited) and the shop on its labour (lifetime) | Film and workmanship |
| Paint protection film (LLumar Platinum, gloss or matte) | 10 years | LLumar manufacturer’s limited warranty | Yellowing, cracking, bubbling, peeling |
| Headlight and taillight film (STEK) | 7 years | Manufacturer | Yellowing, cracking, peeling |
| Vinyl wrap and chrome delete (3M, Avery Dennison) | 5 years | Manufacturer, on the vinyl | The vinyl |
Ceramic coating, paint correction and headlight restoration are not on this list. Where STEK film goes on after a headlight restoration, its 7-year term covers the film, not the restoration underneath.
What do LLumar’s own warranty pages say?
LLumar calls both its tint and its Platinum PPF warranties “limited”, and each ends with one asterisked line: “Certain restrictions apply; see dealer for warranty details.” The dealer, in that sentence, is the shop that installed your film.
On window film, LLumar’s FAQ says: “All LLumar tint products are backed by a manufacturer’s lifetime limited warranty*.” Its answer on tint that cracks, bubbles or yellows is more cautious: if discolouration happens, an owner “may be protected by a lifetime limited warranty”. On paint protection film, the Platinum Gloss page offers “A 10-year manufacturer’s limited warranty”, and the Platinum Matte page says it is “Backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s limited warranty*”.
LLumar’s Platinum pages don’t spell out what the 10 years covers. The list of yellowing, cracking, bubbling and peeling is the shop’s published wording, and the written terms for your install are what count.
What does a film warranty usually not cover?
A film warranty is about the film failing on its own, not about something happening to it. The written terms have the exact list, but these are typical exclusions:
- Impact and collision damage, including chips and tears in PPF
- Cuts, scrapes and scratches, such as a blade or ice scraper on tint
- Wear from harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners
- Damage from washing methods the care rules warn against
- Problems with film installed by someone else
If the car is in a collision, the film and the paint under it are an insurance question, not a warranty one. Keep your invoice and ask ICBC how it treats the film on your claim.
How do you keep the warranty valid?
Follow the care rules for each film from the first day. Damage from scraping and harsh chemicals is typical of what a film warranty excludes, so cleaning the right way is what keeps a later claim valid.
Window tint: leave the windows closed for 3–5 days. Some haze or a few small water pockets during the first week is moisture still drying out, and it clears by itself. After that, a soft microfibre cloth and a cleaner without ammonia are all the glass needs; no scraper or blade should ever touch the film. The first week is covered in when you can lower freshly tinted windows.
Paint protection film: wait a week before the first wash, then hand wash or use a touchless wash. Keep pressure-washer nozzles off film edges and skip brush washes. How long the film itself lasts is covered in how long PPF lasts.
Light film and vinyl: ask how to care for them when you pick up the car.
How do you make a warranty claim?
Start with us. Call or text 604 534 6433, or use the contact form, and have your invoice ready with photos of the problem.
The shop looks at the film first, because what looks like a defect is sometimes curing moisture that will clear on its own. If it is a film or workmanship issue, the shop explains the next step; as the LLumar dealer that installed the film, it is where LLumar’s own warranty wording sends you. Your invoice is the record of which film, which shade and which panels went on the car, so keep it with the vehicle papers.
Film that failed after another shop’s install, such as tint gone purple or bubbled, is a different job. The purple tint removal page explains how it comes off and what replaces it.
