Headlight & Taillight Tint Cost in BC

At a glance

Brookswood Tint quotes headlight and taillight tint per vehicle and publishes no price list. The number depends on how many lamps you film, how deep and curved their housings are, and which STEK film you choose: 30% or 50% smoke, yellow or clear. A pair takes 2–3 hours. Weigh the BC risk before you pay: the 2025 inspection manual fails lamp lenses that are covered or let less light through.

How much does taillight tint cost at Brookswood Tint?

Taillight tint, like headlight tint, is quoted per vehicle; the shop doesn’t publish a set price for it. Your quote is built from the lamps you want covered, the shape of each housing and the film you pick, and fitting time is the largest part of it.

Time is the easiest way to read the size of the job:

What you’re filming What the quote looks at Time in the shop
A pair of taillights Lens size, how far the housing curves into the body, whether each lamp is one piece or split About 2–3 hours
A pair of headlights The same, plus whether the lens is still clear enough to film About 2–3 hours
Fog lights Added to either pair on the same visit Extra fitting time
Headlights and taillights together Two pairs, quoted together Plan for a longer visit

Housings with deep recesses take longer than these times, because every piece of film is heat-formed by hand to follow the lens. The full film service, shades and fit are described on headlight and taillight tint.

What changes the price of headlight and taillight film?

Four things: the number of lamps, how complex their housings are, the film you choose and the state of the lens underneath. Any old film on the lenses is another line, since removal has to happen before fresh film is fitted.

How many lamps

Light smoke on taillights is, by the shop’s own account, the usual styling choice. Each extra lamp, a pair of fog lights or the headlights as well, adds its own fitting time. On many cars each tail lamp has an outer half on the body and an inner half on the trunk lid or tailgate, so one “taillight” can mean two pieces of film.

The shape of the housing

A shallow, gently curved lens takes film quickly. A lamp that wraps around a corner or sits deep in the bumper or fascia needs more heat and more hand-forming before it can be trimmed cleanly to the edge.

Shade and film

The shop fits STEK light film in two smoke shades, 30% and 50%, plus yellow and clear. STEK sells each shade as its own product: its range includes DYNOsmoke at 30% transmittance, DYNOstorm at 50%, and a yellow film, FORCESHIELDamber, at 85%. Ask which product your quote is for, because the terms that come with them differ.

The condition of the lens

Film goes over the lens you have. A headlight that has already yellowed needs restoring before it’s filmed, since film hides yellowing without removing it. That turns a film job into restoration plus film, which is priced on the headlight restoration cost page.

What does a light film quote include?

The quoted price covers the film, the hand-fitting and the shop’s published warranty term. Restoration, vinyl trim work and later removal are separate.

Included Not included
STEK film in the shade you choose for each lamp Restoring yellowed or hazy headlight lenses first
Each piece heat-formed and trimmed to its housing by hand Chrome delete or other vinyl blackout work
Advice on which shade suits headlights, taillights and fog lights on your car Taking the film off later, for an inspection or a change of look
The shop’s published 7-year term against yellowing, cracking and peeling Any new lamp assemblies
A plain explanation of the inspection risk before installing

The shop suggests its 30% smoke alongside a chrome delete for a full blackout, with the trim covered in vinyl. That’s a separate quote, so ask for both on one request if you want the two together.

What can smoked light film cost you at a BC inspection?

It can cost you a failed lamp item, the time to remove the film and possibly a ticket. Smoke and yellow film on a headlight, taillight or signal can both fail, and clear film can still be queried by an inspector.

Two phrases in BC’s 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual decide it. Under Section 6, item 1.0(a), a lamp is rejected when its lens “reduces transmission of light”, and again when it “is covered in any manner”. A film rated at 30% transmittance passes roughly 30% of the light behind it, so a smoked brake light is a dimmer brake light; whether taillight tint makes brake lights dimmer works through the numbers.

Before you book: before fitting any lamp film, the shop walks you through the ticket and inspection risk. If a designated inspection facility is in the car’s near future, after an out-of-province move or a police order, have the film taken off first. The legal detail is on are smoked taillights legal in BC and are tinted headlights legal in BC.

Why do light film quotes differ from shop to shop?

Because “taillight tint” can mean different products, different fitting methods and different warranties. Line those up before you compare totals.

Product and transmittance

A quote should name the brand, the product and its rated transmittance. A 30% film and a 50% film change both the look and how much light the lamp still puts out.

Warranty term

Brookswood Tint’s published term on its STEK light film is 7 years. On STEK’s own page, that 7-year term covers the DYNO films against delamination, yellowing, bubbling and cracking, while FORCESHIELDamber is listed with 5 years. If a quote includes yellow film, ask which term applies to it.

How the film is fitted

Ask whether the film arrives as a pre-cut piece or is shaped on the car. Brookswood Tint heat-forms and trims each piece to the housing by hand, which takes longer and is part of what the quote pays for.

Film or permanent lens tint

Spray-tinting or painting a lens is permanent. Film lifts away under heat with the lens underneath unchanged, which matters the day the car has to go back to stock for an inspection, a sale or a lease return.

How do you get a price for your car’s lights?

The light film quote form needs the car’s details (model year, make, model), the lamps you want covered and the shade for each. Add a photo of each lamp, plus a daylight shot of the headlights if they’re older and may need restoring first.

A pair takes about 2–3 hours, and each extra pair adds fitting time, so book it as a drop-off. Ask for removal to be priced on the same quote if you think the car may need an inspection later. For questions, call 604 534 6433 or send a text. The shop itself is Unit 312 on the Langley Bypass, civic number 20560, working 9:00 to 17:00 with Sundays off. For the film itself, STEK light film describes the product line in more depth.

Questions about light film cost

01Does it cost more to tint headlights than taillights?

There's no separate published price for either. Each pair is quoted on its size and shape, and a pair of headlights or taillights takes about 2–3 hours, longer when the housing has deep recesses.

02Can fog lights go on the same quote?

Yes. The shop lists fog lights among the lamps it films, and adding them adds fitting time to the visit. The same inspection caution applies to them as to any other lamp.

03Will I have to pay to take the film off before an inspection?

Plan for it. Heat releases the film without marking the lens, so ask for removal to be priced at the same time as the install and you'll know both numbers before you decide.

04Can I put smoke film over headlights that have already yellowed?

Not usefully. Film covers yellowing but doesn't remove it, so a yellow lens is restored first and then filmed, which makes it a restoration-plus-film job rather than a film-only one.
