How is light film fitted and priced on a GTI?
STEK light film is cut for each lens, warmed until it follows the lens’s curve, and trimmed by hand. The shop carries 30% and 50% smoke plus clear and yellow, and a pair of tail lights or headlights takes two to three hours.
Light film has no list price, so a GTI is quoted from its own lamps and the shade you want. Seven years against yellowing, cracking and peeling is the manufacturer warranty the shop publishes for it. It’s a removable layer rather than paint or a lens coating: heat lifts it off, and the factory lamp underneath looks as it did. More on the film itself is on the STEK light film page.
Which lamps does a 2026 Golf GTI carry?
LED lighting front and rear, plus several lit details on the body. VW Canada’s 2026 Golf GTI Buyer’s Guide lists the following, and the Autobahn keeps everything the base GTI has:
| Lamp or lit part | GTI | GTI Autobahn |
|---|---|---|
| LED headlights with LED daytime running lights | Yes | Yes |
| Dynamic headlights with cornering lights | Yes | Yes |
| Front fog lights with static cornering lights | Yes | Yes |
| LED tail lights | Yes | Yes |
| Illuminated light line, emblem and door handles | Yes | Yes |
| Welcome light projected from the side mirrors | Yes | Yes |
| Light Assist automatic high beams | Not listed | Yes |
VW Canada’s GTI lighting page adds that the LED fog lights have the GTI’s signature “5 X” design, and the model page describes the headlights as LED with an Adaptive Front-lighting System. Those front lamps are built to put light into corners and through rain, a good reason to keep smoke film off them.
Which GTI lenses suit smoke, and which are better clear?
If anything gets smoked, make it the tail lights. The headlights and the “5 X” fog lights light the road, so leave them as they are or give them clear film for chip protection; the clear headlight PPF page covers that option.
On the tail lights, 50% is the lighter smoke and 30% the near-black one. Start at 50% on a GTI you drive daily: the tail lamps carry the brake lights and signals, and a darker lens is harder for the driver behind to read in Fraser Valley spray after dark. Whether taillight tint dims brake lights works through that trade-off. VW Canada also lists exterior mirror Dynamic Side Markers among the GTI’s popular accessories. Those are lamps as well, so any film on them falls under the same inspection wording.
Will a GTI with smoked lights pass a BC inspection?
Plan on it failing. Section 6, item 1.0(a) of the 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual rejects a lamp whose lens “reduces transmission of light” or “is covered in any manner”. Smoked or yellow film on any GTI lamp can fail on that wording, and clear film may be questioned too.
Before an inspection: if your GTI is going to a designated inspection facility, after a move from another province or under a Notice & Order, have the film taken off first.
On the GTI, lighting rules reach as far as the camera behind the automatic high beams. Transport Canada recall 2016-433 lists 2016 GTIs with Lane and Light Assist that left the factory with a European-standard camera missing a test mode required by CMVSS 108, the federal lighting standard; it was judged not to affect safety, so no repair was ordered. Smoked lamps can also bring a roadside ticket, set out in whether smoked taillights are legal in BC.
Booking light film for a GTI in Langley
Send a photo of the back of the car, the model year, the trim, which lenses you want covered and the shade you’re leaning toward. The quote is made for those lamps, and a pair takes two to three hours.
Afterwards, wash the filmed lenses by hand or in a touchless bay, avoid brushes, and keep pressure-washer nozzles back from the edges. If the body or glass is changing too, see the GTI wrap page and GTI window tint. Request a price through the GTI light film form or text 604 534 6433.
