What does a Golf GTI tint cost?
The rear glass starts from $240 in LLumar ATC. The shop’s posted five-window package covers both rear doors, any quarter glass and the back window, which on a GTI is the hatch. The posted packages are written for sedans, coupes, SUVs and pickups rather than hatchbacks, so the shop confirms the figure for your GTI when you ask.

Does the GTI come with dark rear glass?
Not according to VW Canada. The 2026 Golf GTI Buyer’s Guide lists no privacy glass on the GTI or the GTI Autobahn, and VW sells rear sunshades as an accessory for the car.
For tint that’s useful. A shade on clear-looking glass behaves close to its label, so 35% reads as a medium tint and 15% as dark, without the stacking effect you get over SUV privacy glass. GTI or GTI Autobahn: what changes for tint?
The roof and the windshield. The 2026 GTI comes in two Canadian trims, and VW Canada’s guide splits the glass equipment like this:

VW Canada’s GTI model page puts it plainly: the Autobahn “comes with a sunroof as standard, but the choice is yours on the base trim.” If your car has the sunroof, it’s priced separately, and the sunroof tint page explains how. With a head-up display and rain-sensing wipers working through it, the Autobahn’s windshield is a pane to keep clear.
Which LLumar film suits a GTI?
ATC if you mainly want the look, IRX if you also want the cabin cooler on a sunny day, AIR if you’d rather the glass stayed close to clear.
LLumar’s performance data, measured on clear 6 mm glass, rates ATC at 28–44% total solar energy rejected and IRX at 50–62%. AIR 80 lets through 77% of visible light while rejecting 60% of IR energy (IRER). Since the GTI’s glass isn’t listed as darkened, those lab numbers sit closer to real-world results than they would on a crossover. Whichever you pick, UV is blocked at over 99%.
Can the GTI’s hatch glass be tinted dark in BC?
Yes, at any shade, because the hatch is the rear window and every GTI has outside mirrors on both sides; VW Canada lists heated, power-folding exterior mirrors on both trims. MVAR s. 7.05(8) allows film on the rear window in that case, on side windows behind the driver, and in the top 75 mm of the windshield.
The front door windows are the exception. Film there, even clear, is outside the rule, typically draws a $109 ticket and fails item 13d of an inspection. The shop installs it only if you ask and walks you through the risk first; front window tint in BC covers it in full.
