What does it cost to tint a Golf R?
Film on the glass behind the front seats begins at $240 on a Golf R. The figure comes from the five-window rear package in LLumar ATC dyed film, which on this car means the rear door windows, quarter glass where the body has it, and the hatch. The posted packages name sedans, coupes, SUVs and pickups, not hatchbacks, so the rate is checked against your R before you book.
| Golf R job | Glass | From |
|---|---|---|
| Rear package | Rear door windows, any fixed quarter glass, hatch | $240, confirmed per car |
| Rear package in IRX or AIR ceramic | The same panes | Quoted per package |
| Rail 2 Rail sunroof | Roof glass, where fitted | Quoted per vehicle |
| Front door windows | Driver and front passenger | $140, not road-legal in BC |
What you’re paying for: genuine LLumar film, a pattern cut by a computerized plotter for your year and model with no knife on the glass or trim, a hand fit with heat, and lifetime cover on both the film and the workmanship. Doing the roof at the same visit as the side glass normally costs less than booking the two separately. Each package is drawn out on the window tint price list.
How does the glass differ between the R and the Black Edition?
Only at the roof. VW Canada’s 2026 Golf R Buyer’s Guide makes the Rail 2 Rail power sunroof standard on the Black Edition and a package on the regular R, while the Black Edition inherits everything else the R carries.
| 2026 Golf R | R | R Black Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Rail 2 Rail power sunroof | Package | Standard |
| Head-Up Display | Standard | Standard |
| Rain-sensing wipers | Standard | Standard |
| Heated, power-folding outside mirrors | Standard | Standard |
| Privacy glass | Not listed | Not listed |
The roof is measured on the car and priced as its own job; the sunroof tint page explains how that works. Owners of a 2022 R with the roof have one thing to clear first: Transport Canada recall 2022-402 covers 2022 Golf R and GTI cars whose sunroof touch switch may be sensitive enough to fail Canadian safety tests. A dealer replaces the switch. It has nothing to do with tint, but it’s easy to sort out before the car comes in.
Is the Golf R’s rear glass tinted from the factory?
No. Neither 2026 trim lists privacy glass in VW Canada’s guide, and the R’s popular accessories include rear sunshades instead.
That keeps the shade decision simple. On untinted glass the film does almost all the work, so the window ends up close to the film’s own measured figure. On factory privacy glass the two would multiply: a 20% film over 20% glass comes out near 4%. Keep in mind that the number in a LLumar film’s name is a product code. LLumar’s performance data, measured on clear 6 mm glass, has ATC 50 letting through 60% of visible light and ATC 05 letting through 5%. Holding samples against your own windows settles it, and choosing a tint percentage helps you narrow the field.
Which film should go on a Golf R?
ATC gives privacy for the entry price; IRX adds a cooler cabin to the privacy; AIR cuts heat while the R’s glass stays close to clear. LLumar puts ATC’s total solar energy rejection between 28% and 44%, and IRX’s between 50% and 62%. For a near-clear look, AIR 80 keeps 77% of visible light while blocking 60% of infrared energy on the IRER scale.
UV is the same story on every one of them: the sheet lists more than 99% blocked. The full set of IRX shades is on the LLumar IRX page.
Which Golf R windows can carry film in BC?
The rear door windows, any quarter glass and the hatch, in any shade. The governing rule, MVAR s. 7.05(8), permits film on the side glass behind the driver, and on the back glass whenever both sides of the car carry an outside mirror, as every 2026 R does. The two front door windows can’t legally take film of any kind, clear included, and the windshield may only carry a band in its top 75 mm.
That windshield is also where the R’s standard head-up display works; VW Canada’s HUD description says it places speed and navigation “right on the windshield”. The shop will fit front-door film for $140 if asked, after explaining the typical $109 ticket and the risk of an order to remove it. The details are in tinting front windows in BC.
How do you book tint for a Golf R?
Send the model year, the trim, whether there’s a sunroof and the film you’re leaning toward. The reply confirms the rear package for the R, adds the ceramic difference if you want it and prices the roof separately.
The whole car takes two to four hours, so it normally goes home that afternoon. The film needs three to five days of curing with the windows kept shut, and a faint haze in that first week clears by itself. Use the Golf R tint quote form or text 604 534 6433. If the paint needs protecting as well, see Golf R paint protection film.
