How long is window tint warranted for?
For life, with conditions. LLumar puts every one of its tint products under what it calls “a manufacturer’s lifetime limited warranty”, and Brookswood Tint adds a lifetime warranty on its own workmanship that runs while you own the car.
Two promises, covering two different things:
| What could go wrong | Who stands behind it | Term |
|---|---|---|
| The film itself, such as discolouration | LLumar, manufacturer’s lifetime limited warranty | Lifetime, “certain restrictions apply” |
| The install, such as an edge that lifts | Brookswood Tint, workmanship warranty | Lifetime, while you own the car |
On film that changes colour, LLumar’s FAQ says its tint is built to keep “its color and integrity, year after year”, and that if discolouration does happen and the warranty applies, “our team will remove, replace and install new tint at no additional cost.” Warranty details come from the dealer that fitted the film, so keep your invoice with the car; each film’s terms are listed on the warranty page.
Why there’s no number of years
LLumar doesn’t publish a service life in years for its window film, and the shop doesn’t invent one. What LLumar does publish is the warranty term, and that term is lifetime. The things that cut tint short come down to the film’s grade, the install and how the film is treated.
What makes window tint fail early?
Dye that fades, glue that lets go, damage to the surface and cleaning that wears it. The first two are about the film; the rest are about how it’s treated.
Dye that breaks down in the sun
Cheap dyed film is coloured with dyes that the sun’s UV slowly destroys, so its charcoal drifts toward purple and its heat control goes with it. On a car kept outside it fades sooner than on a garaged one. Faded dye can’t be restored; the fix is on purple tint removal.
Adhesive that lets go
When the glue on old or cheap film stops holding, air or moisture gets behind it and the film rises into bubbles. A failed bond doesn’t re-stick when pressed. That failure, and how the film comes off, is covered on bubbling tint removal.
Scratches and cuts
Scratch-resistant, LLumar’s word for its tint, doesn’t mean scratch-proof. Because film lines the cabin side of the glass, a scraper or blade used on the inside goes straight into it, and the shop also tells owners to keep hard objects such as rings and seat-belt buckles off the glass. A scratch someone puts in the film is damage, not the film failing, so ask the shop which kinds of damage LLumar’s “certain restrictions” leave out.
Cleaning with the wrong things
The shop’s rule is short: a soft microfibre cloth, an ammonia-free cleaner, and nothing that scrapes. Following it keeps abrasive pads and blades away from the one surface of the film you can reach.
A cure that was interrupted
Dropping a door window in the first 3 to 5 days can catch the film’s top edge on the seal before the adhesive has bonded, leaving a crease or a lifted edge.
Does dyed or ceramic tint last longer?
At Brookswood Tint all three films carry the same lifetime warranty, so the difference isn’t in the term. It’s in what could change over the years: a dyed film has a dye that could fade, and the shop’s ceramics, by its own description, have none.
| LLumar film | Where the shade comes from | UV blocked | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATC | Colour-stable dye, built into the film | >99% | Lifetime limited, plus workmanship |
| IRX | Nano-ceramic; the shop describes it as having no dye layer | >99% | Lifetime limited, plus workmanship |
| AIR | Clear nano-ceramic; the shop describes it as having no dye layer | >99% | Lifetime limited, plus workmanship |
ATC is dyed, but not the way low-grade film is. On its ATC product page, LLumar describes ATC’s charcoal as part of the film itself, not a surface coat, and credits that for the film’s durability and colour stability. The shop says of its ceramics that they never turn purple, because there’s no dye in them to fade. UV figures are from LLumar’s performance data sheet. The full film-type comparison is on ceramic vs dyed window tint.
Does parking outside shorten tint life?
For low-grade dyed film, yes: more sun means faster fading, and the Fraser Valley has plenty.
The ECCC 1981–2010 normals for Abbotsford Airport record bright sunshine on 285 days of an average year, adding up to 1,886.7 hours. May to August alone supply about 962 of those hours, just over half. A driveway car facing that every summer is where cheap dye shows its age first.
With LLumar film, discolouration is something the lifetime limited warranty may cover, so summer on a driveway isn’t the countdown it is for cheap dye. A garage still helps the rest of the car.
How do you make tint last as long as the car?
Let it cure undisturbed, then treat the inner face of the glass gently for the rest of its life. Three habits do most of the work: door windows kept closed for the first 3 to 5 days, nothing sharp on the inside of the glass, ever, and the invoice kept with the vehicle papers in case you ever need to claim.
The full routine, first week to years later, is in the window tint aftercare guide.
When does old tint need replacing?
When it has faded, bubbled, peeled or clouded, or sits on glass where BC doesn’t allow film. None of that can be fixed in place; the film comes off and new film goes on.
Removal takes 1 to 3 hours, with steam rather than a blade on the rear glass so the defroster grid survives. Each window is priced on its own, and the removal costs less when new film follows at the same appointment. Beyond purple and bubbled film, window tint removal also covers film that has to come off the front doors to pass an inspection.
Getting tint that lasts as long as you own the car
Choose film built to hold its colour, fitted by a dealer who can answer for its warranty. At Brookswood Tint that’s LLumar ATC, IRX or AIR, cut on the plotter to your car’s year, make and model, and warranted for life, film and labour alike.
A sedan or pickup’s rear glass costs from $240 in ATC; the ceramics are priced on top, per package. Starting prices are on window tint pricing and the ceramic option on the LLumar IRX film page. Request a price through the window tint form.
