Can you ceramic coat a Toyota Tacoma, and what does it cost?
Yes. The Tacoma gets the same three graphene-ceramic packages as any vehicle, and the price is set per truck because the shop doesn’t publish coating prices. What moves the quote is how much correction the paint needs, which package you pick and how much truck there is to cover.
| Package | Layers | Paint preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 1 | Decontamination wash and clay, at least one stage of polish |
| Performance | 2 | Two-stage correction |
| Signature | 4 | Full correction; the shop’s published package also covers trim |
Paint thickness is measured before any polishing, so the correction stays within what the clear coat can give. Correcting paint and letting each layer cure take up most of the truck’s one to three days in Langley, and the coating needs 24 dry hours once you’ve collected it.
Which Tacoma colours and finishes does the coating go over?
All of them, though a few need extra thought. Toyota Canada’s 2026 Tacoma product summary for British Columbia lists nine exterior colours for the gas trucks and eleven for the hybrids, two of them with a black roof.
| 2026 Tacoma colours (BC) | Gas | Hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Supersonic Red, Black, Wind Chill Pearl, Bronze Oxide, Heritage Blue, White, Underground, Mudbath | Yes | Yes |
| Celestial Silver Metallic | Yes | No |
| Wave Maker | No | Yes |
| White with Black Roof, Underground with Black Roof | No | Yes |
Dark colours such as Black show swirl marks and wash scratches most, so they benefit most from the correction in the Performance and Signature packages. On the two-tone hybrids, the black roof is coated along with the rest of the body. Toyota’s note on the summary that some colours cost extra and not every colour comes on every model is worth reading if you’re still choosing.
What about the overfenders, bumpers and other unpainted trim?
Much of a Tacoma’s lower body isn’t paint, and it varies by package. The 2026 specifications list body-coloured overfenders on the TRD Sport grades and MIC black ones on the TRD Off Road grades and the Trailhunter, while the TRD Pro’s are gloss black. The hybrids get a colour-keyed front bumper, and the features page lists bronze-coloured accents on the Trailhunter.
Painted overfenders and bumpers are coated with the body. The black and bronze trim is a separate surface, and the shop’s Signature package lists trim among what it covers. Steel bumpers, skid plates and rock rails are worth talking through at drop-off. Wheels are an add-on of their own, set out on the wheel coating page.
How should a coated Tacoma be washed?
Gently and often, the way Toyota already asks. The Tacoma owner’s manual says to wash the truck immediately after driving on salted roads, and promptly when tree sap, bird droppings or insects land on the paint. A coating makes that wash quicker; it doesn’t make it optional. Coatings and road salt explains what the layer does in a BC winter.
Toyota’s pressure-washer rules suit coated paint too:
- Hold the pressure-washer tip 30 cm or more off the body, and 50 cm or more from the high-mounted stoplight and cargo lamps.
- Don’t spray the radar behind the front emblem directly, or keep a stream on the lower part of the windshield.
- Skip brush washes; Toyota warns their brushes can scratch the paint.
Should a Tacoma get a coating, PPF, or both?
Both, if the truck sees gravel or long highway runs. A coating keeps the paint glossy and easy to wash but won’t stop a chip; film absorbs the stones. One way to combine them is Tacoma PPF on the front end and a coating over the whole truck, film included, and the PPF vs ceramic coating comparison sets out who needs which.
To book, send the year, package and colour, and say whether the paint already shows swirls. You’ll hear which package suits the paint, and the price follows once the shop has looked at the truck. Ask through the Tacoma coating request, or ring 604 534 6433.
