What does wheel ceramic coating include?
Wheels can be coated on their own as an add-on, which also covers the brake calipers, or as part of a whole-car package. The difference between the packages is how much of the wheel they name.
| Option | Wheels | Calipers | Paint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add-on: wheel and caliper coating | Yes | Yes | Not included |
| Essential package | Not listed | Not listed | 1 layer |
| Performance package | Wheel faces | Not listed | 2 layers, plus glass |
| Signature package | Wheels | Not listed | 4 layers, plus PPF, glass and trim |
Every option is quoted per vehicle. Give the wheel size, how many sets you want done and whether you’d like the calipers included, and the quote can reflect it. The rest of each package is listed on the ceramic coating page, and what drives coating prices is on ceramic coating cost.
Why do wheels need their own coating?
Because wheels collect brake dust on top of road grime, and their factory finish is easily harmed by the strong cleaners used to shift it. A coating’s job here is to keep that dust from bonding, so a gentle wash is enough.
Carmakers set tight limits on wheel cleaning. Mazda’s Canadian CX-5 manual says its aluminum wheels have a protective coating and that a wire brush, “abrasive cleaner, polishing compound, or solvent” can damage it; it allows mild detergent only. Kia’s EV9 manual describes a clear protective finish and warns that alkaline or acid detergent “may damage and corrode” the wheels.
Heavy-duty wheel cleaners are exactly what those manuals rule out. The shop’s position is that coated wheels shed brake dust before it bonds, which keeps you on the mild soap the manuals ask for.
Wheel faces or the whole wheel: what’s the difference?
The face is the outward side you see from the street: the spokes and the lip. The rest of the wheel, the inner barrel behind the spokes, collects dust too but is harder to reach on a mounted wheel.
Performance names wheel faces; Signature and the add-on name wheels. If full coverage of the barrels matters to you, say so when you ask for the quote and ask how it’s done for your wheels. Open-spoke designs show more of the barrel and the brakes than solid ones, which is worth weighing when you choose.
Can brake calipers be coated too?
Yes. Caliper coating is part of the wheel and caliper add-on. Painted calipers sit right in the stream of brake dust, and the same dust that clings to a wheel settles on them.
Coating the calipers is about keeping them easy to clean, not changing their colour. If yours are bare cast metal rather than painted, mention that on the quote request.
How do you wash coated wheels through a Langley winter?
Let the wheels cool, rinse them, wash with a mild soap and a soft brush or mitt, and rinse again. After a drive on salted roads, do it sooner rather than later.
Mazda’s manual tells owners to clean the wheels “after driving on dusty or salted roads to help prevent corrosion,” and Kia’s says to clean a wheel once it has cooled. Both warn off car washes with hard or high-speed brushes. Langley gives you plenty of reason to rinse: the City of Langley relies on salt across its streets whenever snow falls, and Abbotsford’s climate normals record about 53 nights a year at or below freezing. A coating helps salt and dust let go, but salt left on any finish for weeks is still a problem. The paint side of the routine is in how to wash a ceramic coated car, and salt specifically in does ceramic coating protect against road salt.
How long does a wheel coating take?
As part of a package, the wheels are done within the one to three days the car spends in the shop. As an add-on, the time depends on how many wheels and whether the calipers are included, so ask when you book.
The shop’s aftercare rule covers the whole car: no water on it for a full day once you’ve collected it. If you’re also coating the windshield and side glass, glass ceramic coating explains that add-on, and the coating itself is described on graphene coating.
How do you get a wheel coating quote in Langley?
The ceramic coating quote form needs the car, the wheel size and finish, the number of sets and whether the calipers are painted. Say whether you want the wheels alone or as part of Performance or Signature. Bring the car to Unit 312 on the Langley Bypass on a weekday or Saturday.
