Windshield & Glass Ceramic Coating

At a glance

A windshield ceramic coating is a water-repellent layer bonded to the outside of the glass so rain beads up and clears faster. At Brookswood Tint glass coating is an add-on and part of the Performance and Signature coating packages, quoted per vehicle. Check your car first: Subaru rules out water-repellent windshield coatings on its EyeSight-equipped Legacy and Outback, and Toyota says the wipers still have to clear the glass in front of its camera.

What does a windshield and glass coating include?

Glass can be coated on its own as an add-on, or as part of two of the shop’s three graphene-ceramic packages. Every option is quoted per vehicle.

Option Glass Also coated
Glass coating add-on Yes Nothing else unless added
Essential Not listed Paint, one layer
Performance Yes Paint (two layers over a two-stage correction) and wheel faces
Signature Yes Paint (four layers over full correction), PPF, wheels and trim

The coating goes on the outside face of the glass. When you ask for a price, say which panes you want done: the windshield alone, or the side windows and back glass as well. The full package list is on the ceramic coating page.

What does a glass coating change in Fraser Valley rain?

It makes rain bead and run off the glass instead of sheeting across it. The shop describes glass coating as improving wet-weather visibility; it doesn’t replace the wipers, and it isn’t a heat or UV product.

This climate gives it plenty of work. Environment Canada’s normals for Abbotsford A record an average of 51 days a year with 10 mm of rain or more, and almost nine of them in November alone. Heavy-rain days like those are what a coated windshield is for. Paint gets the same rain, which is the subject of whether a coating is worth it in BC’s rain.

Which cars shouldn’t get a coated windshield?

Cars whose makers rule it out, and Subaru is the clearest case. If a camera looks out through your windshield, check what the manual’s camera section says before booking.

Subaru with EyeSight

Subaru’s service bulletin 06-43-12R, covering EyeSight-equipped Legacy and Outback models from the 2013 model year onward, bans water-repellent coatings on either face of the windshield. Its reason is the same one it gives for keeping gadgets off the dash: reflections can interfere with EyeSight’s stereo camera. On those cars the windshield stays uncoated; the side and rear glass are a separate question.

Toyota Safety Sense and other camera systems

Toyota doesn’t ban a coating, but it limits what you can expect from one. Its 2025 Tacoma owner’s manual says that “even if a glass coating agent is applied to the windshield,” the wipers still have to clear water from the patch of glass the camera looks through. Other makers word their camera rules differently, so tell the shop the make, model and driver-assistance features when you ask for a quote. How cameras affect windshield film, a different product, is covered in tinting a windshield with an ADAS camera.

Is a windshield coating the same as ceramic window tint?

No. A glass coating sits on the outside of the glass to shed water; ceramic window tint is a film on the inside that cuts heat and, in most shades, darkens the glass. The two share a word and nothing else, as ceramic tint vs ceramic coating explains.

If you came here looking for film on the windshield, know the law first. MVAR s. 7.05(8) restricts windshield film to a strip along the top of the glass, 75 mm at most, which means a film over the whole windshield, even clear ceramic, is not road-legal in BC. The shop does tint full windshields from the inside on request, from $200, and walks you through the consequences first. Mission RCMP puts the usual tint fine at $109, and an officer can write a Notice & Order instead, which means removing the film and then taking the car to a designated inspection facility to pass. The details are on windshield tint.

How do you look after a coated windshield?

Wash it with the rest of the car, keep the wipers and washer fluid working, and switch automatic wipers off before you touch the glass. The coating does the water shedding; the wipers still do the clearing.

That last point matters on cars with rain sensors. Mazda’s Canadian CX-5 manual warns that with the wiper lever in AUTO and the ignition on, the wipers can start on their own if the glass above the rain sensor is touched or wiped, and tells owners to put the lever in OFF before cleaning the windshield. Do the same before wiping a coated windshield. After the coating goes on, keep the car dry for 24 hours, the same rule as for paint.

How do you book a glass coating in Langley?

Send your year, make, model, any driver-assistance features and which glass you want coated through the ceramic coating quote form, and say if it’s an add-on to a paint coating or a booking on its own. A glass coating fits inside the one to three days of a full coating visit, and can be booked alongside coated wheels, covered on wheel ceramic coating.

Asked at the counter

Questions about windshield and glass coating

01Can I still use my wipers after the windshield is coated?

Yes, and you should. Toyota's manual for cameras behind the windshield says the wipers are still needed to clear the glass in front of the camera even with a glass coating applied.

02Can the sunroof or glass roof be coated?

Ask when you get the quote. The packages name glass in general, so say which panes you want covered, including any fixed roof glass.

03Do I need to recoat after a windshield replacement?

A coating is bonded to the glass it was applied to, so new glass starts bare. If the windshield is replaced, book the new one in if you want it coated.

04Is a glass coating the same as a rain repellent from the gas station?

Both aim to make water bead; the difference is that the shop's glass coating is applied in the bay rather than wiped on at a pump. Either way, read your owner's manual first if a driver-assistance camera looks out through the glass.
