Ceramic coating

Graphene Coating in Langley, BC

At a glance

Every coating package at Brookswood Tint is graphene-ceramic, applied in one layer (Essential), two over a two-stage correction (Performance) or four over full correction (Signature). Prices are set car by car, the work runs one to three days at the Langley shop, and the coating then needs a day away from water. What it gives you is gloss, strong water beading and faster washing; it doesn't stop rock chips, which is the job of paint protection film.

What does a graphene coating cost at Brookswood Tint?

Each car gets its own figure, since size, the package and the amount of paint correction all change the work involved. The three packages differ in layer count, prep and what else gets coated.

Package Graphene-ceramic layers Paint prep Coated beyond the paint
Essential 1 Ask when quoting Nothing listed
Performance 2 Two-stage correction Wheel faces, glass
Signature 4 Full correction PPF, wheels, glass, trim

Most of the time in the shop goes on preparing the paint, not on applying the coating itself. What moves a quote is laid out on ceramic coating cost, and the packages are described on the ceramic coating page.

What is graphene, and why is it in a coating?

Graphene is a form of carbon one atom thick. The shop describes its coating as a ceramic coating with graphene added to the formula, which is what “graphene-ceramic” means on its menu.

Graphene earned Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics “for groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene.” The Nobel press release calls it “a thin flake of ordinary carbon, just one atom thick,” describes it as “not only the thinnest ever but also the strongest”, and adds that it’s so dense “not even helium, the smallest gas atom, can pass through it.” It also notes that graphene mixed into plastics can make them “more heat resistant and mechanically robust.”

That’s the science of graphene itself, not a test of any car coating. How much a given coating gains from it depends on its formula, and the shop publishes no lab figures for its product, so this page doesn’t claim any. The term is defined in more depth on graphene coating in the glossary.

What will a graphene coating do for your car?

It gives the paint a slick, glossy cured layer that makes water bead and lets road grime, droppings and salt rinse off with less scrubbing. In a wet climate that mostly shows up as shorter, easier washes.

What it won’t do

  • Stop rock chips. A coating is far too thin to absorb a stone; whether a coating prevents chips explains why. Film on the front is the answer to chips.
  • Hide existing marks. Swirls and scratches under a coating stay there, which is why Performance and Signature start with correction.
  • Replace washing. Dirt still lands on a coated car; it just lets go more easily.

How long does a graphene coating last?

No figure in years appears on the shop’s menu, and none appears here. Layer count, the quality of the prep and your washing habits all affect how long the beading holds up, so that’s part of the conversation at quote time.

What you can watch for yourself is the beading: tight, round beads that roll off mean the coating is doing its job. For coatings in general, read how long ceramic coating lasts. If you’re deciding how many layers to pay for, how many layers of ceramic coating you need weighs the options.

Should you choose graphene or a plain ceramic coating?

At this shop the choice is between layer counts, not chemistries, since every package uses the same graphene-ceramic coating. If you’re comparing quotes from shops that sell both kinds, the differences are set out in graphene vs ceramic coating.

When you compare, look past the label. Ask each shop what prep is included, how many layers go on, which surfaces are coated and what aftercare they expect. Those details are easier to compare than the word on the bottle.

What happens during a graphene coating appointment?

Expect one to three days, most of them spent on preparation and curing. The steps run in this order:

  1. Wash and decontaminate. Bonded grime and fallout come off so the coating meets clean paint.
  2. Measure and correct. Paint thickness is measured before any polishing; Performance includes a two-stage correction and Signature a full one.
  3. Coat. The graphene-ceramic goes on panel by panel, in the number of layers your package calls for, along with any wheels, glass, film or trim it names.
  4. Cure and hand back. After collection, give the car a full day with no rain or washing.

Cars getting PPF as well have the film fitted before step 3, so the coating seals film and paint in the same session.

How do you book a graphene coating in Langley?

Fill in the ceramic coating quote form with the car, the package you have in mind and how the paint looks now, or phone 604 534 6433. Pick a drop-off that leaves the car at Unit 312 for up to three days and a pickup day with a dry forecast. If chips worry you as much as gloss, ask about film at the same time; PPF vs ceramic coating shows how the two work together.

Questions about graphene coating

01Is graphene coating just marketing?

Graphene itself is real and well studied; its discovery won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics. What it adds to a particular car coating depends on that product's formula, and the shop doesn't publish lab figures for its coating, so judge it on the package, the prep and the result.

02Can a graphene coating go on a car with PPF?

Yes. Film goes on first and the coating covers film and paint together; Signature is the package that lists PPF among its surfaces.

03Do I have to stop washing my car myself after a graphene coating?

No. Hand washing with a gentle soap is exactly what a coated car wants. Wait out the first 24 hours, then avoid brush washes.

04Can I put a graphene coating on myself instead?

Consumer products exist, but the shop's packages include the prep that a coating depends on: decontamination and, on two of the three packages, machine correction after paint thickness is measured.
