Can you smoke a Mustang’s sequential taillights?
Yes. STEK smoke film in 50% or 30% is warmed and stretched over each taillamp lens until it follows the lamp’s shape. Budget two to three hours for each pair; the price is worked out for your Mustang’s lamps.
The film covers the whole lens, including the part that carries the turn signal. On a Mustang that signal is sequential, lighting in steps across the lamp, and with smoke film it steps across behind the same tint as the tail and brake lights. The shop publishes a 7-year manufacturer term on STEK light film against yellowing, cracking and peeling. Headlamps can be done the same way in smoke, yellow or clear.
Which lamps does the 2026 Mustang have?
LED front and rear on every trim. Ford Canada’s 2026 pages, from the EcoBoost Fastback to the Dark Horse, list the same core lighting:
| Lamp | How Ford describes it | What film does to it |
|---|---|---|
| Headlamps | LED projector headlamps with black bezels and LED signature lighting | Smoke darkens the lens and the signature lighting inside it; yellow changes the beam colour |
| Daytime running lamps | Non-configurable daytime running lamps | Where they share the headlamp lens, headlight film dims them too |
| Taillamps | LED taillamps with sequential turn signals | Smoke darkens the tail, brake and signal light together |
Ford already gives the headlamps black bezels, so they start with a dark surround. Smoke film darkens the lens itself, and 30% on a headlamp is a far bigger step than 50%.
Will smoked Mustang lamps pass a BC inspection?
They can fail. The lamp item in section 6 of BC’s 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual, 1.0(a), lists two reasons to reject a lens: it “is covered in any manner”, or it “reduces transmission of light”. Smoke film does both at either shade, and yellow film on a headlamp changes its colour. Clear film may still be questioned.
That matters if police issue a Notice & Order, if the Mustang comes from another province, or when it’s sold. STEK film comes off with heat, so it can be removed before an inspection. Whether smoked taillights are legal in BC goes through the rule in full, and whether taillight tint makes brake lights dimmer covers how much light you give up.
Should you check Mustang lamp recalls before filming?
Yes, because two recent recalls touch Mustang lighting and film can’t fix either. NHTSA recall 25V546000, Ford’s 25C43, covers 105,545 US-market 2024 and 2025 Mustangs, GTD included: water can reach the body control module and cut the tail lights, side markers and licence plate light. Dealers inspect and seal the body seams as needed, and replace the module if it has corroded.
NHTSA recall 25V519000, Ford’s 25C39, covers some 2025 Mustangs whose LED driver modules may hold a burnt diode, which can take out the low and high beams, running lights, front position lights and front turn signal in one headlamp. Run your VIN with a Ford dealer and have any open recall done first, so a lamp that’s already failing isn’t blamed on the film.
How do you book Mustang light film in Langley?
Tell the shop the Mustang’s year and trim, which lamps you want done, and the film: smoke at 50% or 30%, yellow, or clear. The shop confirms a price for your lamps, goes over the inspection risk and books a two-to-three-hour slot per pair. Use the light film quote form. If you’re darkening the glass too, Ford Mustang window tint covers what BC allows there.
