What do lease agreements say about a chrome delete?
A lease may not mention chrome delete by name, but clauses on modifications, add-on parts or graphics can cover a blacked-out trim job. Your own agreement decides it, so read the clauses on alterations and on the vehicle’s condition at return before you book.
Two Canadian lessors’ published rules show how this works:
| Lessor | What its published lease-end material says |
|---|---|
| Porsche Financial Services Canada | “Any after-market modifications will need to be removed”, the car returned “to its original condition at the time of lease origination”, and modifications left on “are subject to charge” (lease-end FAQ) |
| Land Rover Canada | Lists “Any graphics or decals added to vehicle”, “aftermarket parts” and “Any aftermarket accessories” under what’s not acceptable at return (lease-end guide) |
Both documents are about how the car comes back. That is why vinyl suits a lease: it can be on for the term and off for the return.
When should the chrome delete come off before the lease ends?
Before the lease-end inspection, with enough time left to fix anything removal turns up. Both lessors above run that inspection a month or more before the term ends, not on hand-back day.
Land Rover’s Canadian guide is specific. It suggests a self-inspection three months before the lease expires, says the inspection company will contact you about two months before maturity, and recommends booking the appointment at least one month before the end date so any repairs can be done first. Porsche’s lease-end team schedules its optional pre-inspection around 60 days before maturity.
So for a car going back, book the removal roughly two to three months before the end of the term, ahead of that inspection.
Will the vinyl still come off cleanly at the end of a lease?
On upright trim, a lease of up to seven years stays inside 3M’s removal window. Sky-facing pieces are the ones to watch on a longer lease, because the makers’ horizontal ratings are short.
| Film | Upright trim | Sky-facing trim | What it means on a lease |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3M 2080, Canada (Zone 2) | Up to 7 years | 2 years | Window surrounds and grille bars stay inside 3M’s window on any term up to seven years; roof rails pass it once the lease runs past two |
| Avery SW900 black, zone 1 | 12 years | 3 years | Same pattern; Avery rates its film removable for the length of its durability period |
3M’s figures come from its 2080 warranty card for Zone 2, where 3M’s January 2025 zone list places Canada, and 3M’s bulletin says the film is removable from most surfaces within the warranty period. Avery’s are in its SW900 data sheet. If your lease is longer than three years and you want roof rails black, ask about wrapping them later in the term, or plan an earlier removal.
Which chrome delete pieces need care on a leased car?
The ones that come off the car, and anything that hides a sensor. Every piece has to go back exactly as the factory fitted it.
- Badges, handles and mirror caps. Where the shop can unbolt or unclip a part, it wraps it off the car and refits it with the correct clips and fasteners. Reversing it at lease end is the same job in reverse.
- Sensor and radar covers. 3M’s 2080 product bulletin recommends users “NEVER apply film over” vehicle sensors, radar or similar equipment. If a front badge or grille panel on your car covers a sensor, leave it bright.
- Anything replaced instead of wrapped. If a part is swapped for a black one, keep the original chrome part to refit at return.
What happens if removal marks the car before you return it?
You’d want to know before the inspector does. Lease-end guides like Land Rover’s measure paint damage, and it lists dents, chips, scuffs and scratches through the paint over 3 inches in area among the items that aren’t acceptable.
3M says 2080 that is used, maintained and removed by its instructions within the warranty period should not damage an OEM paint finish. Its warranty still doesn’t cover paint pull during removal, which is one more reason to leave a margin between removal and inspection. For how the vinyl comes off, and where it gets harder, see reversing a chrome delete.
Booking a chrome delete on a leased car in Langley
Tell the shop the car is leased and roughly when the term ends; that helps decide which pieces come off for wrapping and which pieces suit the term. The shop puts its view plainly: vinyl comes off cleanly with heat, and lease returns aren’t a problem when it’s done that way.
The service is on chrome delete, with what affects the price on chrome delete cost. If you’re weighing other jobs on the same lease, wrapping a leased car, tinting a leased car and PPF on a leased car each take their own angle. Put your year, make, model and lease end date on the chrome delete request, or text them to 604 534 6433.
