How is a ceramic coating priced for an R1S?
Per vehicle, after a look at the paint. The shop publishes no coating prices, and on a seven-seat SUV the area to prepare and the amount of correction it needs are what move the figure.
| Package | Layers | What gets coated |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | A single graphene-ceramic coat | Paint only |
| Performance | Two coats after a two-stage correction | Paint, wheel faces, side and rear glass |
| Signature | Four coats after full correction | Paint, PPF, wheels, glass (not the windshield), trim |
Paint thickness is measured before any polishing, and the R1S spends one to three days in the shop. Glass, wheels and calipers, and interior protection can be added. How the system works is on the ceramic coating page.
What does Rivian say about coating an R1S?
That it’s optional and useful. The hand-wash section of the R1S owner’s guide says exterior coatings such as wax or ceramic “aren’t required”, but that you can apply one to protect the paint, keep it looking new and make maintenance washing easier. It also says to apply a coating only when the vehicle is clean, dry and cool, never in direct sunlight, which is how a shop job is done anyway.
Rivian is firm about one panel of glass. In both the wiper and wash sections it tells owners not to wash, wax or coat the windshield with water-repellent products, because they can affect rain detection and keep the automatic wipers from working properly. So on Performance and Signature, which include glass, the windshield is left out and the side windows, liftgate glass and roof can still be coated. What a glass coating does, and doesn’t, is set out on the glass coating page.
Which R1S colours and wheels does the coating cover?
Every painted panel, plus the wheel faces on the two upper packages. Rivian Canada lists the paint and wheels by trim:
| R1S trim | Paint colours | Wheels |
|---|---|---|
| Premium | Esker Silver, Glacier White, Forest Green, Half Moon Grey, Midnight, Rivian Blue | 22” Range, 22” Sport Bright, 22” Sport Dark, 20” All-Terrain Dark |
| Performance | The Premium six plus Red Canyon and Storm Blue | The same four wheels |
| Quad | The same eight colours | 22” Super Sport, 22” Sport Burnished Bronze, 20” Dune Satin Graphite All-Terrain |
Darker colours such as Midnight and Forest Green show swirl marks under bright light more readily than Glacier White or Esker Silver, so they gain most from correction before the coating. On the Quad, the 20-inch all-terrain wheels come in a satin graphite finish rather than a bright one, which is worth mentioning if wheels are part of the job.
Should the R1S’s lamps get a coating?
Rivian allows it, with a caveat. Its exterior lights section says that on clean, dry lights you can apply a ceramic or automotive hydrophobic coating to reduce ice buildup, then adds that coatings may affect lens opacity and light performance. Given that caveat, raise the lamps at the paint inspection and decide on them together instead of assuming they’re included.
The same section asks owners to clear snow and ice from the lights with warm water and a soft cloth, since scrapers and snow brooms can scratch the lens. A coated lens sheds slush more easily, but the gentle method still applies.
How do you book an R1S coating in Langley?
Tell the shop the year, trim and colour, and whether PPF is on the vehicle or planned, since film goes on first. Keep the R1S dry for a day after pickup. From then on, Rivian’s own routine fits a coated SUV: no hot water, no washing in direct sun, a car-wash detergent with a soft sponge, and a rinse of the underbody and wheel wells after salty roads. Whether a coating helps with winter salt is covered in ceramic coating and road salt. Book a paint inspection on the R1S coating quote form or text 604 534 6433.
