What’s left to black out on an M3?
Mostly badges. BMW finishes many of the parts other cars have in chrome in black from the factory, so the quote covers only what’s actually bright on your build.
| Part | Factory finish, per BMW | Chrome delete? |
|---|---|---|
| Kidney grille | Frameless, no surround | The bars, if bright; the CS grille badge |
| Window trim | Shadowline standard; Extended Shadowline on Competition models | Only if bright on your car |
| Exterior mirrors | Painted High-gloss Black | Already black |
| Exhaust tips | Black chrome | Usually left alone |
| Badges | Roundels front and rear, model badge on the trunk lid | The usual job |
The grille and mirror details come from BMW Canada’s 2020 launch release, which calls the grille “large and deep frameless” and describes the black chrome exhaust tips. The trim levels come from the 2021 M3’s US equipment list, where Extended Shadowline was a no-cost option on the base M3. A Canadian car can differ, so photos settle it.
Can the M3’s badges be blacked out?
Yes. The roundels and model badges are wrapped in black vinyl, removed first wherever that’s safe, so the film reaches around every edge. If a badge can’t come off safely, it’s covered where it sits, with the vinyl trimmed tight to its outline.
Two later badges are worth knowing about. On cars from the 2025 model year, BMW gives the trunk badge of Competition models “an elegant silver border”, which is the bright edge a blackout would cover. On the M3 CS, BMW puts an “M3 CS” badge on the upper of the two horizontal grille bars and adds red contour lines to the grille. Badge blackouts explains how emblems are handled in general.
What did the shop’s M8 blackout cover?
The closest BMW in the shop’s photo library is an M8 Competition Gran Coupe it blacked out completely. Its kidney grille, window surrounds and mirror caps are all black, so nothing bright breaks up the paint and wheels; the M8 Competition blackout shows it.
An M3 starts much closer to that finished look. With black mirrors, a frameless grille and Shadowline trim already on most cars, the M3 job is usually smaller than the M8’s. The M8 photo is still useful for judging how far to go, because it shows black trim, black wheels and dark paint together on one BMW.
Gloss or satin black on an M3?
Match what’s already black on the car. BMW uses High-gloss Black for the M3’s mirrors, rear spoiler and the band of sills and bumper aero parts around the body, so gloss vinyl blends with those.
Satin makes more sense on a Frozen matte car or one wrapped in satin, and it hides fingerprints better. Hold both samples against the car in daylight before you choose. If the whole body is changing colour, M3 wraps cover that side.
How do you book an M3 chrome delete in Langley?
Photograph every badge, the grille head-on and the window trim on both sides, then send those photos along with the model year, the version and your choice of gloss or satin. Vinyl lifts off with heat, which suits a leased car or a future sale.
Upload them with the chrome delete quote form; for questions first, the number is 604 534 6433. Smoked lamps often go with a blackout; M3 light tint explains the options and the inspection risk.
