How much chrome does each M5 still have?
Less with each update. BMW’s own Canadian releases list the trim each M5 left the factory with, and on recent cars most of it is already black.
| M5 | Grille | Window trim | Other dark trim, per BMW |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 M5 Competition | High-gloss black surround | High-gloss Shadow Line surrounds and B-pillar trim | Door handle finishers, mirror bases and caps, gill mesh, boot spoiler, M5 boot lettering |
| 2021 M5 Competition | High-gloss black surround, black badge | Not listed | Gill mesh, mirror caps and boot spoiler in high-gloss black; black badges on gills and boot lid |
| 2025 M5 sedan | High-gloss black, almost fully closed, lit frame | Gloss black as standard | Shadowline headlight trim; Black Chrome tailpipes |
| 2025 M5 Touring | M grille, M5 badge on the double bar; lit grille on equipped cars | Not listed | High-gloss black mirror caps and roof strips; Black Chrome tailpipes |

What’s left to black out on a 2025 M5?
Mainly the roundels and model badges. BMW already makes the sedan’s grille high-gloss black, finishes the window surrounds in gloss black, and darkens the inside of the headlight housings with its standard Shadowline Lights. The embossed M5 logo in the rear pillar trim gets a matte finish against that gloss surround.
That leaves the BMW roundels front and rear, any bright lettering, and whatever piece your car’s options left in a lighter finish. The illuminated grille frame is a special case: black vinyl on it would hide the light. A badge-only blackout is the smallest chrome delete there is; badge chrome delete describes how those pieces are done.
Which 2018 to 2024 M5s still have bright window trim?
The non-Competition ones are the cars to check. BMW listed high-gloss Shadow Line window surrounds and B-pillar trim among the 2019 M5 Competition’s design features, which suggests a standard M5 of those years could have left the factory with a brighter finish on the side glass.
If yours does, the window surrounds are the piece that changes the car most. They’re long strips that frame all the side glass, and wrapping them black ties the glasshouse to the dark grille and mirrors. On a Competition model, the job shrinks to badges, roundels and any remaining lettering.
Should M5 trim match BMW’s own gloss black?
On most M5s, yes. BMW’s trim on these cars is high-gloss black, so gloss vinyl on the remaining pieces makes everything read as one finish. Satin black is the alternative: it hides fingerprints and matches unpainted black plastic, but next to BMW’s gloss pieces it looks like a different material.
The shop holds samples of both against the car, which beats choosing from a screen. The figure on this page is the shop’s own M8 Competition Gran Coupe job, where the grille bars and window surrounds were blacked out to sit with gloss black paint; the M8 blackout project shows that car in detail.
How do you book an M5 chrome delete in Langley?
Send the year, sedan or Touring, Competition or not, and photos of the front, side and rear. List the pieces you want black. The shop prices the M5 from those, since the trim varies so much by year and options.
The vinyl is 3M or Avery Dennison cast film with a 5-year manufacturer warranty, as the shop publishes it, and it lifts with heat if you want the original trim back. Touchless washes are fine after the first week; brush washes and pressure-washer jets on vinyl edges are not. If you’re also planning M5 window tint, both can be done in one visit. Use the M5 chrome delete quote form or call 604 534 6433.
