What trim does a BMW M8 leave the factory with?
Darker trim than most cars. BMW Canada’s releases set it out by year, and very little of it is bright chrome in the classic sense.

Which pieces went black on the shop’s M8 Competition?
The grille, the side window surrounds and the mirror caps. In the shop’s photo of its M8 Competition Gran Coupe, the kidney grille and bars, the trim around all three side windows on that side and the mirror caps are black like the paint, and the wheels are black too, so nothing bright breaks up the long four-door profile.
The shop lists that car as a full chrome delete, its top package, which takes in window trim, grille, badges and bumper trim along with door handles, mirror caps and any other bright work. The M8 Competition blackout project walks through it piece by piece.
Is Black Chrome worth covering?
On a dark M8, covering it makes the biggest visual change. Black Chrome is darker than ordinary chrome but still has a metallic shine, so next to gloss black paint the grille and gills read as a separate material. Gloss black vinyl puts them in the same finish as the paint and the gloss black mirror caps and spoiler.
On a lighter M8, such as Alpine White or one of the Frozen greys, the Black Chrome already contrasts with the paint and can be worth keeping. The grille chrome delete page covers how bars and surrounds are wrapped, including grilles with many slats.
What about the chrome inside the M8’s headlights?
That’s a factory option, not a vinyl job. BMW’s 2022 update offered Shadowline Headlights for the M8, which darken the inserts and chrome elements inside the headlamps, and paired them with the standard high-gloss black grille frame.
Film over the outside of a headlight is a different thing. Smoked film can fail a BC inspection, since the 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual rejects a lamp whose lens reduces light transmission or is covered in any manner, and even clear film may be questioned.
