How much glass does each ProMaster configuration have?
Ram builds the ProMaster as a Cargo Van, a Window Van and a Cutaway, and the three carry very different amounts of glass. Ram’s 2026 Canadian spec rows make the difference plain:
| 2026 ProMaster (Ram Canada) | Roof and wheelbase | Glass as Ram lists it | What gets tinted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo Van | Low Roof, 118 in. or 136 in., in the 2026 listing | “Tinted Windows: light”; no rear window row | Any glass behind the driver it was ordered with |
| Window Van | High Roof 159 in. or High Roof Extended 159 in. | “Full-Length Side And Rear Windows”, “Rear Windows: fixed”, “Tinted Windows: deep” | Every side window behind the driver and the rear door glass |
| Cargo Van with Crew Van Package | High Roof | Seats up to six, with a partition behind the crew | The crew-area windows |
| Cutaway | Cab only | Upfitter’s body behind | The cab’s glass; front glass can’t legally take film |
The figures come from Ram’s ProMaster models page and design page. Which windows a Crew Van Package adds, and how the cargo van’s rear door glass is ordered, are set out on van window tinting.
How dark will film look on a Window Van’s deep-tinted glass?
Darker than the film’s number suggests. Ram lists the Window Van’s glass as “deep” tinted but doesn’t publish its light transmission, and film multiplies with whatever the glass already lets through: 20% film on glass that passes 20% leaves about 4%.
So on a ProMaster Window Van, the lighter films do most of the work:
| LLumar film (spec sheet) | Visible light through, on clear glass | Total solar energy rejected | Why choose it on deep-tint glass |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATC 50 | 60% | 28% | The lowest-cost way to darken it further |
| IRX 50 | 54% | 50% | The most heat rejection of the three, at a similar darkness to ATC 50 |
| AIR 80 | 77% | 43% | Near-clear, for heat and UV with little change to the look |
Values are taken from LLumar’s data sheet for its auto films, which tests on one clear pane; UV rejection is over 99% on all three. How dark factory privacy glass usually is, and what that means for stacking film, is covered in how dark is factory privacy glass. On a low-roof Cargo Van with light-tinted glass, darker shades like ATC 05 or IRX 05 behave much closer to their spec-sheet numbers.
Do a ProMaster’s mirrors and cameras allow dark rear glass?
Yes, as long as both outside mirrors stay on, which BC requires for any film on the rear window. Ram’s spec rows list a driver and a passenger mirror on the 2026 ProMaster, each with a convex spotter mirror and an integrated turn signal.
For seeing behind with dark rear door glass, Ram offers two cameras on its safety features page:
- Digital Rearview Mirror. Ram says it “offers an unobstructed view of what’s behind your van”, and its screen “displays a video from the rear-facing camera in real-time”. The picture comes from the camera rather than a reflection through the rear glass, so dark film on the doors doesn’t dim it.
- ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera. Shown on the touchscreen, with dynamic gridlines.
One thing to check first: Transport Canada recall 2025273 covers 17,910 ProMasters from the 2022 to 2025 model years, where a software problem “could cause the rearview camera image not to display” when reversing. The fix is a dealer software update, and it’s worth having done before the rear glass goes dark.
Does roof height change a ProMaster tint quote?
It changes which pattern the film is cut from. Ram builds the 2026 ProMaster with Low, High and Super High roofs, with cargo roof heights of 66.3, 77.1 and 86 inches, on 118, 136 and 159 in. wheelbases plus a 159 in. Extended body.
Because the shop’s plotter cuts each pane from the pattern for one specific van, it needs the roof, wheelbase and body as well as the year. Two ProMasters of the same year can carry different glass, which is why the quote follows the van rather than a price list.
What does BC law allow on a ProMaster?
On a ProMaster, the sliding door window counts as glass behind the driver, so it can be as dark as the other cargo-area panes, and MVAR s. 7.05(8) lets the rear doors be filmed too while both outside mirrors are fitted. Up front, the door windows can’t be filmed at all, and the windshield only in its top 75 mm.
Front glass film is available on request, but you’ll hear first about the ticket, Notice & Order and inspection it can bring; on a van that earns its keep, leaving the front clear avoids all three. The mirror requirement is covered in side mirrors and rear-window film.
How do you book ProMaster tint in Langley?
Send the model year, whether it’s a Cargo Van, Window Van or Crew Van, the roof height and wheelbase, and pictures showing the van’s flanks and back doors. Mention whether the glass is factory deep tint, and which film and shade you have in mind.
Requests go through the fleet tinting form or by phone on 604 534 6433. A ProMaster fleet is handled with one shade per configuration, units booked in blocks and company billing, and the pricing approach is on what fleet tint costs. Owners running mixed fleets can compare the Transit and the Sprinter.
