What does taillight tint on a Civic involve?
It’s STEK light film laid over the factory lenses, shaped with heat to each one and trimmed by hand. The shop stocks it in 30% and 50% smoke, plus clear and yellow, and a pair of taillights or headlights takes two to three hours.
There’s no published price for light film, so a Civic is quoted from its own lamps: how many lenses there are, how they’re split across the body, and which shade you want. The shop publishes a 7-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and peeling. The film is a layer, not a coating, so heat takes it off again and the lens underneath is unchanged. Clear film is the protective version for the headlights: it takes small stone hits in place of the lens and leaves the lamp looking stock.
Which lights does the 11th-generation Civic have?
LED front and rear on every current trim. In Honda Canada’s 2026 specifications, every Civic sedan from the LX up and every Civic hatchback gets LED headlights with auto-on/off, LED taillights and LED daytime running lights. The Sport Touring Hybrid also has LED turn-signal indicators built into the side mirrors.
The lamps have changed within this generation. Honda’s 2021 sedan launch release describes “wide-set LED taillights” on the 2022 car. For 2025, Honda’s refresh announcement lists “revised taillights” and says “new darker taillights give Civic sedan a sharper look”, while the hybrids get a body-coloured headlamp garnish. A 2023 sedan and a 2025 sedan therefore start from different lenses.
Should a Civic get 30% or 50% smoke?
Start at 50% on a daily driver. Film passes a share of whatever the lens already lets out, so 50% smoke halves the light, and 30% passes less than a third of it.
That matters more on a 2025 or later Civic sedan, whose taillights already leave the factory darker. Layering 30% smoke over a darker lens makes the brake lights and signals harder to see, especially in Fraser Valley rain and spray. On a 2022 to 2024 sedan or a hatchback, 50% still gives a visible change without going as far. If you want the full blacked-out look, 30% is there, and whether taillight tint dims brake lights works through what you give up.
Will smoked lights on a Civic pass a BC inspection?
Assume they won’t. The lamp section of the 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual, Section 6, item 1.0(a), turns a lamp down when its lens “reduces transmission of light” or “is covered in any manner”. Smoked or yellow film on any lamp can fail on that wording, and clear film isn’t safe from questions either.
Before an inspection: if the Civic has to go to a designated inspection facility, say after a move from another province or under a Notice & Order, have the film taken off first. Heat lifts it.
Smoked lamps can also lead to a ticket on the road. The lamp rules and fines are set out in whether smoked taillights are legal in BC, and the shop runs through the same risk at the counter before you decide.
How do you book Civic light film in Langley?
Send a photo of the back of the car, the model year, sedan or hatchback, trim and the shade you’re leaning toward. The quote is for your lamps.
Allow two to three hours for a pair. Afterwards, wash the filmed lenses by hand or in a touchless bay, skip brushes, and hold a pressure-washer nozzle well back from the film’s edges. If you’re also thinking about the rest of the rear end, the smoked taillight page covers the film in more depth. Book through the Civic light film request form or text 604 534 6433.
