Tesla Model Y Headlight & Taillight Tint in Langley

At a glance

Model Y taillights are smoked at Brookswood Tint using STEK light film, 50% or 30%, and headlights can take smoke, yellow or clear; each pair takes roughly two to three hours and is priced for your car. Two recalls cover 2020–2023 lamps, one for the taillights and one replacing the headlights, so check those first. BC inspectors can reject any covered lamp, a point the shop raises before you commit.

What does taillight tint on a Model Y involve?

STEK light film, cut and fitted lens by lens, at roughly two to three hours for each pair. Smoke is the usual taillight choice, 50% if you want the lamps lightly shaded and 30% if you want them close to black; on the headlights, the choice is smoke, yellow or clear. There’s no published price; the quote depends on how many lenses your build has and which film you choose.

Film Typical use on a Model Y Notes
STEK smoke, 50% Taillights, for a lighter tint Dims the lamp; inspection risk
STEK smoke, 30% Taillights, for a near-black look Dims it more; inspection risk
STEK yellow Headlights Changes the light’s colour; inspection risk
STEK clear Headlights May still draw an inspector’s attention

Under the shop’s published terms, STEK film is covered for seven years against yellowing, cracking and peeling. Pricing across all light-film jobs is on headlight and taillight tint cost.

Which lamps does a Model Y have to film?

That depends on the build. The 2020–2024 manual lists a taillight in each rear corner of the body, reached from inside the cargo area, plus combined rear fog and reverse lamps and a high-mounted brake light.

The 2025+ car spreads its lighting differently. Tesla lists a tail lamp assembly on the liftgate, lamps in the rear fascia, and on the Model Y Standard a separate body-side tail lamp on each side. At the front, a lightbar runs across the nose, its centre section bolted to the front end module, alongside the headlamps. More lenses means more film and more fitting, so tell the shop your year and trim.

Which Model Y lamp recalls should you check before filming?

Three US recalls touch Model Y lighting. They’re NHTSA filings, so run your car’s VIN through Tesla or Transport Canada’s recall database to see whether a Canadian Model Y is included.

Recall Model Y years Problem Remedy
22V-844, November 2022 2020–2023 A taillight, or both, may go dark intermittently Free over-the-air software update
26V-507, August 2026 2020–2023 Low beams may be too bright, exceeding the federal maximum Tesla Service replaces the headlights; owner letters expected October 3, 2026
25V-658, October 2025 2026 Reverse lights may fail to light because of a wiring defect Tesla replaces the reverse lights and harness

The practical point: make sure the taillight update is installed and every lamp works before it’s filmed, and if your headlights are due to be replaced, have that done first. Film fitted to a lamp that’s about to be swapped is wasted.

Can smoked taillights on a Model Y pass a BC inspection?

They can fail. A lamp lens “covered in any manner” is a reject under item 1.0(a) of the lamp section in BC’s 2025 inspection manual, and so is one that “reduces transmission of light”, which smoke film is designed to do. Yellow film alters a headlight’s colour, and clear film isn’t a safe harbour either.

The shop sets this out before anyone decides, and it’s why light film may have to come off before an inspection. BC’s rules are walked through on smoked taillights and the law, and the effect on brake-light output on taillight tint and brake lights.

How do you book Model Y light film in Langley?

Share the build year and trim, which lamps to film, the shade, and whether any recall work is done. At two to three hours a pair, it slots in easily alongside other work, such as a Model Y chrome delete for a matching darker look. Prices come back through the light film quote form; texting 604 534 6433 works too.

Questions about tesla Model Y light tint

01Is 50% smoke dark enough to see on a Model Y's taillights?

It's the lighter of the two STEK smoke shades and gives a tinted look rather than a blacked-out one. Either shade cuts the light the lamp puts out, which is why both can be questioned at inspection.

02Can the film come off before I sell my Model Y?

Yes. Light film is removable, so the lamps can go back to bare lenses for a sale, a lease return or an inspection.

03My Model Y is in the headlight recall. Should I film the lamps now?

Wait. Tesla says it will replace the headlights on affected cars, and film on the old lamps would go with them. Film the new ones once they're fitted.
