What does window tint cost on a Tesla Model Y?
On a Model Y, the SUV rear package is $260 and up in LLumar ATC, covering every pane behind the front doors. Moving those panes to IRX nano-ceramic or AIR clear ceramic raises the price by a per-package quote, and roof glass is priced as a separate job.

Which glass sits behind the driver on a Model Y?
Five panes, plus the roof. Tesla’s 2020–2024 service manual lists the rear door glass, a fixed rear quarter window on each side, bonded in with urethane and edged by a strip of brightwork, and the liftgate glass, which Tesla calls the backlight.
The liftgate glass is wired. Before that pane comes out, Tesla’s backlight procedure unplugs two FM antenna amplifiers, two antenna filter connectors on the glass and the high-mounted brake light. ATC is dyed and IRX and AIR are ceramic, so nothing on the shop’s menu is metallized; more on tint and cell or GPS signal.
The roof depends on the build. Tesla’s 2025+ manual gives the Model Y Standard its own fixed roof glass, and replacing it starts with taking out the whole headliner, while the Premium’s procedure removes only a rear headliner panel. Dark-looking rear glass changes the maths, because shades multiply: put 20% film on 20% glass and roughly 4% gets through. We found no Tesla figure for the Model Y’s rear glass, so let the shop check yours before you choose.
How do the frameless doors and windshield cameras affect tinting?
Neither stops the job. The door glass has no frame above it, and Tesla’s owner guide to calibrating windows treats a window that “goes down more than normal when the door opens” or “touches the bright molding” as a cue to recalibrate: raise it until it stalls, lower it until it stalls, raise it again. After tinting, leave the switches alone for three to five days and let the small automatic drop happen as usual.
The windshield is where the forward-facing cameras look out, behind the rear-view mirror. Tesla’s glass repair guidelines allow no chip repairs inside the camera’s field of view plus 25 mm around it, and a dedicated cleaning procedure exists just to remove haze from the inside of the glass in front of those cameras. What can be tinted on a Model Y in BC?
Everything aft of the front doors, at whatever darkness you like. MVAR s. 7.05(8) clears the rear side glass outright and the liftgate glass because a Model Y carries a mirror on each side; up front, only a 75 mm band across the windshield’s top edge is allowed.
Frameless or not, the front doors are front side windows, and no film is road-legal on them, clear ceramic included. If an owner still wants it, the shop lays out what follows before touching the glass: a ticket that, in the Mission RCMP’s words, “typically carries a fine of $109”, or a notice ordering the film removed and the vehicle inspected. If UV is the worry, the Model Y’s front glass may already handle it. In a 2025 study of 34 vehicles, the driver’s windows of the 2022 and the 2024 Model Y tested both blocked all the UVA the researchers measured. One car per year proves little, but it weakens the case for front film.
