What does taillight tint on a GR86 cost and involve?
It’s quoted for your car, and a pair of lamps is about two to three hours’ work in the bay. The shop lays STEK light film over each lens, warms it until it follows the curve, and trims it by hand at the edges.
The film comes in 30% and 50% smoke for a darker look, plus clear and yellow, and the warranty the shop publishes for it is seven years from the manufacturer, covering yellowing, cracking and peeling. Nothing is sprayed or painted onto the plastic, so warming the film releases it whenever you want the stock lenses back. Clear film is the version for owners who only want protection: it sits between road grit and the headlight lens without changing how the front of the car looks.
Which lights does each GR86 grade have?
LED headlights on every grade, with the adaptive system on Premium cars. Toyota Canada’s GR86 specifications list the lamps for 2026 and 2027, and the GR86 features page adds the daytime running lights and high-beam control.
| GR86 lamp equipment | Base MT | Premium MT and Premium AT |
|---|---|---|
| LED headlights | Yes | Yes |
| Adaptive Front Lighting System | No | Yes |
| LED daytime running lights | Yes | Yes |
| Automatic high beams | Yes | Yes |
Toyota says the adaptive system helps the driver see better around corners after dark. Smoke film on a headlight cuts the light the lamp puts out, and on a Premium that includes the beam sent into bends. The shop advises on the shade for each lamp before anything is fitted. The 2026 Yuzu Edition also carried the adaptive headlights.
Should a 2022 GR86 have its recall done before the taillights are tinted?
Yes. Transport Canada recall 2023-484 covers 521 GR86s from the 2022 model year: the rear turn signals could switch off when bright light, such as direct sunlight, shines on them. Toyota’s remedy is to replace both rear combination lamp assemblies at a dealer.
Film is shaped to the lens it goes on. If a 2022 car is tinted first and the lamps are swapped afterwards, the film leaves with the old lamps. Check the recall status with a Toyota dealer or the Transport Canada database before you book, and flag it in your quote request.
How dark should a GR86’s rear lamps go?
Start at 50% for a car you drive every day. The shop describes 50% as the subtle shade that keeps output and suits lamps with amber signals in the housing, and on the GR86 the rear turn signals are part of the rear combination lamps, going by Transport Canada’s recall notice.
30% gives the blacked-out look, at the cost of brake lights and signals that are harder to read in Fraser Valley rain and road spray. The trade-off is covered in what smoke film does to brake-light brightness, and the film is described in full on the smoked taillights page.
Will a GR86 with smoked lights pass a BC inspection?
Plan on it failing. The sticking point is item 1.0(a) of the lamp section, Section 6, in the 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual, which turns down any lamp with a lens that lowers the light getting through or “is covered in any manner”. That catches smoke and yellow film on every lamp of the car, and even a clear film over a lens leaves room for an inspector’s doubt.
Before an inspection: a GR86 that needs a full inspection, for example one coming in from out of province or one under a police order, should have its light film removed beforehand.
Smoked lamps can also lead to a roadside ticket. Fines and the roadside rules are in are smoked taillights legal in BC; expect the shop to raise it with you before quoting.
How do you book GR86 light film in Langley?
Send the model year, grade, a photo of the car’s rear and the shade you’d like, plus whether the headlights are included. For a 2022, note whether the recall work has been done. The reply is a price for your lamps.
Each pair is a two-to-three-hour job. After fitting, clean the lenses with a hand wash or a touchless wash, skip brushes, and keep a pressure washer’s nozzle well away from the film edges. Book with the GR86 light film form; texting the shop on 604 534 6433 also works.
