Tint Removal Cost in Langley, BC (2026)

At a glance

Tint removal at Brookswood Tint is priced per window, and the removal costs less when new LLumar film goes on in the same visit; there's no 2026 price list, so each car is quoted. Most jobs take 1 to 3 hours. Stripping only the two front side windows for a BC inspection is the smallest job, and a whole car of decade-old film with a defroster grid on the back glass is the largest.

How is tint removal priced at Brookswood Tint?

By the window. You pay for the panes you want stripped, and the removal price drops if the same visit ends with new LLumar film.

That structure gives you three ways to buy it:

Option What you pay for When it fits
Removal only Old film and adhesive off the windows you choose, glass left clean A sale, a lease return, or film you’d rather have none of
Removal and re-tint Removal at a reduced price, plus LLumar ATC, IRX or AIR with its lifetime warranty Purple, bubbling or peeling film you want replaced
Front two only Film off the driver’s and front passenger’s side windows; the rear left alone or redone A failed inspection, a Notice & Order or an out-of-province car

Re-tint prices in ATC are published on window tint pricing, with ceramic IRX and AIR quoted per package, so the removal is the main figure left to quote.

Which windows cost the most to strip?

Usually the back glass. Its defroster grid rules out a blade, so the film is lifted with steam, which is slower; the age of the film and the state of its glue add time to every window.

The back glass

Carmakers warn owners to keep sharp tools off the inside of a heated rear window. Mazda’s owner’s manual says not to clean that surface with “sharp instruments or window cleaners with abrasives”, because they “may damage the defogger grid”. Brookswood Tint steams rear glass and never scrapes it, and tests the grid before and after. That care takes time; rear window tint removal walks through the steps.

Film that has been on for years

Ten-year-old film that has cooked onto the glass lifts far more slowly than film fitted a few summers ago. Purple film is usually in this group; purple tint removal explains why dyed film turns that colour.

Glue that has let go

The shop names two things that stretch a removal across its 1 to 3 hours: how many windows there are, and how badly the adhesive has failed. Glue that has let go stays on the glass after the film is gone, and all of it has to be dissolved. Bubbled film is the usual sign of it.

The number of windows

A coupe’s rear set is three windows; a full-size SUV’s is seven. More panes means more steaming, more glue and more glass to clean.

What does a removal price include?

The film off, the glue off, and the car’s interior and glass looked after along the way. New film and anything paid to a third party are separate.

In the removal price Separate
Steam removal, with no blade on the back glass New LLumar film, priced from the published tint list
Every trace of old adhesive dissolved An inspection at a designated facility
Door panels, seats and rear deck covered Any ticket or order already issued
The rear grid, and any antenna printed on the glass, checked before work starts and again after Tax
The bare glass checked, with any chip, scratch or failed seal shown to you before new film goes on

Clean glass matters even if you aren’t re-tinting now. Glue left on a window is what makes new film look cloudy later, so it comes off in the same job.

What else does removing illegal front tint cost you?

The removal is only one of the costs. When the reason is an inspection or a police order, the facility charges for the inspection, and letting an order’s deadline pass brings a fine.

BC’s 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual rejects, under item 13d, “any after-market tint (by film or any material or coating)” anywhere on the side glass forward of the driver’s seatback, which is why an inspection job is usually the front two windows only. Standard inspection fees vary by facility, and Mission RCMP puts them generally between $150 and $250. If police have issued a Box 2 Notice & Order, CVSE requires the vehicle to pass a complete mechanical inspection within 30 days, and Mission RCMP puts the fine for missing that at $598.

So book the removal well inside those 30 days. The full order process is on tint removal after a Notice & Order, and cars arriving from other provinces or the US are covered on out-of-province inspection tint removal.

Is it cheaper to remove window tint yourself?

Only if nothing goes wrong, and the back glass is where it usually does. A home removal saves the labour charge, but a cut defroster line is a repair that no tint job fixes, and any glue left behind must still be cleared before a shop can re-tint.

Side door glass rarely carries a grid, so it’s the forgiving part of a home removal. The rear window is the risk, for the reasons the carmakers give. The other common problem is adhesive: film peeled off at home often leaves its glue behind, and new tint over that residue looks hazy, so the glass has to be cleaned properly before any shop can re-tint it. If your grid is already damaged, can you tint over rear defroster lines explains what that means for new film.

Why do tint removal quotes differ between shops?

Because “removal” can mean anything from peeling the film to leaving the glass factory-clean. Compare these points before the totals:

  • Per window or per car. A per-window price lets you strip only what needs stripping.
  • Steam or blade on the back glass. Ask directly, and ask who pays if a grid line stops working.
  • Glue. Is all of the adhesive removed, or only the film?
  • Testing. Is the defroster checked before work starts, so you both know it worked going in?
  • Re-tint discount. Does the removal cost less if the same shop re-tints?
  • Warranty on the new film. Weigh the new film’s warranty along with the removal price. Brookswood Tint’s LLumar installs carry a lifetime warranty on film and workmanship.

The wider question of tint pricing is answered in why tint prices vary so much between shops.

How do you get a tint removal quote?

List the windows with film on them, add a photo of each, and say why it’s coming off. That’s enough for a per-window price.

  1. Year, make and model.
  2. Which windows have film, and roughly how old it is.
  3. The reason: purple or bubbling film, an inspection, a Notice & Order, or a sale.
  4. Whether you want new film, and which LLumar film interests you.

The tint removal quote request takes all of that, and so does a text to 604 534 6433. For a rough idea of what the new film will cost, try the price estimator. Removal takes 1 to 3 hours on most cars, and the re-tint usually follows the same day. Brookswood Tint works out of Unit 312, 20560 Langley Bypass, and keeps 9-to-5 hours every day except Sunday.

Questions about tint removal cost

01Is it cheaper to remove only the windows that have failed?

Yes, since each window is priced on its own. Keep in mind that new film beside old, faded film won't look the same, so a partial job can be a false saving if you'll want them to match.

02Do I need to book removal and re-tint as separate appointments?

No. On most cars the old film comes off and the new LLumar goes on the same day, and doing both in one visit is what brings the removal price down.

03Does removal cost more on a van or a big SUV?

It usually does, because there's more glass. On a full-size SUV the rear set alone is seven panes, counting the hatch.

04Can I get a price from photos?

Yes, a photo of each tinted window and the year, make and model are enough to start. Say how old the film is if you know, since old film takes longer to lift.
