Which films are sold as a white pearl wrap?
Avery Dennison sells the exact name: Gloss White Pearl, SW900-109-S. Its North American Supreme Wrapping Film overview files it among the pearl films, next to several whites that are easy to mix up.
| Film | Code | Finish |
|---|---|---|
| Avery Gloss White Pearl | SW900-109-S | Gloss pearl |
| Avery Gloss Pearl White Snow | SW900-110-S | Gloss pearl |
| Avery Satin White Pearl | SW900-117-S | Satin pearl |
| Avery Diamond White | SW900-161-D | Diamond line |
| 3M Satin Pearl White | 2080-SP10 | Satin pearl |
| 3M Gloss White Gold Sparkle | 2080-GP240 | Gloss, with sparkle |
| 3M Gloss White | 2080-G10 | Solid gloss, no pearl |
3M’s 2080 brochure has no gloss white pearl under that name. If you want 3M film, the choice is between a satin pearl and a gloss with sparkle, and a swatch beside the Avery one settles it quickly.
Why does a thick pearl film need careful fitting?
Because thicker vinyl is stiffer around tight shapes. Avery’s SW900 data sheet lists White Pearl at a 4.2 mil face, against a range that starts at 3.2 mil, and warns that any SW900 film 4 mil or thicker may not conform as readily.
That matters most on bumpers, deep recesses and mirror caps, the shapes that ask the most stretch of a film. Pearl adds a second rule. Avery says metallic and pearlescent films can look different when turned, so every piece must keep the roll’s orientation, and it asks for one roll per vehicle wherever possible. 3M’s 2080 product bulletin prints arrows on the liner of its pearl films for the same reason.
Then there are the openings. A white wrap over a darker car leaves the old colour visible inside the doors, so read whether door jambs can be wrapped before you settle the quote.
How does white pearl look on an overcast Langley day?
The shop’s view: pearl needs light at an angle to show its shimmer, so on a flat grey day a gloss white pearl reads mostly as clean, bright white, with a soft sheen along the curves. The gloss keeps sharp reflections of the sky on the hood and roof.
Low sun is where it changes. Late in the day the pearl glows across the shoulders and door panels, which is the whole point of a pearl. Look at the swatch at both times before you decide.
What kinds of cars suit a gloss white pearl?
The shop’s suggestion runs to cars with defined body lines and black accents: luxury SUVs and sedans, and sports cars with black roofs, mirrors or grilles. The contrast between pearl white and gloss black trim is sharp and tidy.
Cars that live on gravel are a harder match. White makes road grime and tar easy to see, and stone damage isn’t a defect: 3M’s warranty card, for one, excludes dents from stones and road debris.
Keeping a white wrap white through a BC winter
Rinse road brine off often and deal with tar the day you see it. The City of Langley puts brine down in winter on the routes it treats first and uses salt, on its own or with sand mixed in, and the grey film that leaves shows quickly on white.
Avery’s Instructional Bulletin 1.50 asks for a wash about every two weeks, immediate spot cleaning of tar, sap, bugs and fuel, and no automatic brush washes. On gloss vinyl it allows spray waxes, provided they contain no petroleum distillates. 3M’s 2080 maintenance FAQ names waxes it accepts on smooth or gloss films and suggests a mild cleaner such as Simple Green for stubborn residue. A ceramic coating isn’t on either list: 3M’s warranty doesn’t extend to coated 2080, and Avery’s cover ends once a coating carrying solvents or distillates goes on. The full routine, step by step, sits on how to wash a wrapped car.
Which warranty row does a white pearl fall in?
Check it on paper, because Avery’s data sheet has separate rows that could both seem to apply. Its black and white films are rated 12 years vertical and 3 horizontal in Zone 1, while metallic and pearlescent films are rated 5 and 2.
A white pearl belongs to the pearl family by name, so plan on the shorter row unless the paperwork says otherwise. Avery’s Instructional Bulletin 1.30 puts Canada in Zone 1. For 3M whites, the card sets 7 years for vertical panels and 2 for horizontal ones in Zone 2, and 3M’s zone map shows Canada in that zone. The shop’s published vinyl term is 5 years, as a manufacturer warranty; ask Brookswood Tint which of these terms your invoice will carry.
Removal, and booking a white pearl wrap
Taking it off involves warming the film, peeling it back slowly and cleaning off leftover adhesive, and Avery doesn’t warrant removal from paint older than five years. The process is on wrap removal.
To book, put the code you want and your car’s details into the vinyl wrap quote request, or text 604 534 6433, and mention any respray or stone damage. Whole-car colour changes take 3 to 5 days, with drop-off at Unit 312, 20560 Langley Bypass during opening hours, 9:00 to 17:00 Monday to Saturday.
