What does tint cost on a VW ID.4?
The rear package is $260 in LLumar ATC: the rear door windows, the quarter glass and the hatch window. Each piece is cut on the plotter from the ID.4’s pattern for your model year, so nothing sharp touches the glass or the seals.
| ID.4 glass | Panes | From |
|---|---|---|
| SUV rear package | Rear doors, quarter glass, hatch | $260 |
| IRX or AIR ceramic on the same panes | As above | Quoted per package |
| Panoramic fixed glass roof | Optional on VW’s packages | Quoted per vehicle |
| Front doors | Both | $140, not allowed on BC roads |
| Windshield, inside, full | 1 | $200, not road-legal in BC |
Film and labour come with a lifetime warranty. Pairing the roof with the side glass in one visit normally prices below the two list figures added together. The full menu is on the window tint price list.
What glass does VW fit to the ID.4?
Privacy glass and a heated windshield on every trim, with the glass roof as an option. The 2025 ID.4 Buyer’s Guide from VW Canada lists, for the base car and everything above it:
- privacy glass
- a heated windshield
- rain-sensing wipers and automatic heated washer nozzles
- a Panoramic Fixed Glass Roof, available through VW’s option packages rather than as standard
The 2025 model is the newest ID.4 on VW Canada’s site. Earlier years can differ in their packages, so give the shop your year and trim.
Because the rear windows already carry factory tint, film stacks on top of them: 20% film over glass passing 20% of the light ends near 4%. VW doesn’t publish a figure for the ID.4’s privacy glass, so pick a shade with the car in front of you.
Should the ID.4’s glass roof get film?
If the cabin heats up under it, it’s worth pricing. The panoramic roof on an ID.4 is fixed glass, not an opening sunroof, so the film goes on one large pane over the cabin.
The roof also has a roller sunshade underneath. Transport Canada recall 2023-602 covered 2,744 ID.4s from the 2023 and 2024 model years whose roller sunshade fabric might not meet Canadian flammability rules; dealers apply a flame retardant. It’s not a glass problem, but confirm the recall is closed if yours is affected. Film on the roof is a separate job from the sunshade, and the panoramic roof tint page explains how it’s fitted and priced.
Which film makes sense on an electric SUV like the ID.4?
Ceramic, in most cases. The privacy glass already handles the look, so the useful upgrade is infrared rejection: IRX if you want to go darker, AIR 80 if you want to keep VW’s shade.
LLumar’s performance data puts IRX at 50–62% total solar energy rejected against 28–44% for dyed ATC, and AIR 80 at 60% IR energy rejection (IRER) while passing 77% of visible light. All three block more than 99% of UV. Whether cooler glass changes your range is a separate question, taken up in does window tint improve EV range; the EV window tint page covers EV glass more broadly.
The ID.4’s windshield and front doors under BC law
Both stay clear, apart from an optional strip in the top 75 mm of the windshield. MVAR s. 7.05(8) limits film to that strip, the side windows behind the driver, and the rear window of a vehicle with outside mirrors on both sides, which the ID.4 has.
The ID.4’s windshield is heated and carries rain-sensing wipers, so it’s the last pane to experiment with in any case. The front door windows are beside the driver; film there of any shade can bring a ticket, typically $109, and fails inspection under item 13d. The shop installs it only on request, after explaining that. Front window tint in BC sets out the rest.
