How much chrome does a BMW M4 have from the factory?
Not much, and less on a Competition. BMW’s 2021 launch release gives the M4 a frameless kidney grille and a high-gloss black band formed by the bumper aero parts and the extended side sills, so there’s no grille surround to cover and the lower body trim is already black.
| Version | Bright or dark details BMW names | What’s left to cover |
|---|---|---|
| M4, 2021 on | Chrome twin tailpipes; mirrors and rear spoiler in body colour; Extended Shadowline optional | Badges and any remaining brightwork |
| M4 Competition, 2021 on | Extended Shadowline standard; black chrome tailpipes | Badges |
| Competition models, 2025 on | Roundel surround in high-gloss black; rear M badge bordered in silver | The silver badge border and other badges |
| M4 CS (2025) | Grille and trunk badges in black with a red border; matte black tailpipes | Very little |
| M4 CSL | Redesigned model badges; matt black tailpipes | Very little |
The 2025 details come from BMW’s 2025 M4 announcement, the CS details from the M4 CS release and the CSL details from the M4 CSL release.
What does BMW’s Shadowline already black out on an M4?
The mirrors, the rear spoiler and the tailpipes. According to the launch release, the Extended Shadowline trim adds a dark finish to all three; it’s optional on the core M4 and standard on Competition models.
Competition buyers could also go the other way and specify body-colour mirrors and spoiler with chrome tailpipes, matching the core car. So two M4 Competitions of the same year can need different deletes. Separately, BMW offered Individual Shadowline headlights with darkened inlays along their upper edges. Those are a factory lamp option, not trim, and a vinyl delete doesn’t touch the lights; smoked film is a different job, covered on M4 headlight and taillight tint.
Which M4 parts can vinyl black out?
Badges and roundels first, then any bright edge that’s left. On a 2025 Competition, the silver border around the trunk-lid M badge is the obvious one; on a core car, body-colour mirror caps and the spoiler can go black to mimic Shadowline.
Each badge is covered or trimmed by hand, and anything that sits over a sensor or camera is left bare after the shop checks the car. Lamps, lenses and the grille’s openings aren’t part of a chrome delete. The method for emblems and lettering is set out on badge chrome delete. Because the film is cast vinyl, it can be lifted with heat later, a point covered in whether a chrome delete is reversible.
Gloss or satin black on an M4?
Gloss black sits closest to BMW’s own high-gloss black band and Shadowline parts, so it blends with what the car already has. Satin reads flatter and more muted.
Satin can suit an M4 in one of BMW’s Frozen matte colours, where a gloss badge would be the only shiny thing on the car. On a gloss paint colour, gloss vinyl tends to read as a factory part. Ask to see both against your paint before you choose.
How do you book an M4 chrome delete in Langley?
Send the year and version, say whether it has Extended Shadowline, and send close photos of every bright piece you want gone. The quote lists what’s covered and what’s left alone.
For a sense of a full blackout on a bigger BMW, the shop’s M8 Competition project shows one. Five years is the manufacturer term the shop publishes for the vinyl. If the whole body is changing colour as well, M4 wraps covers that work. Photos and questions go through the M4 chrome delete request, or call 604 534 6433.
