Is there a wrap film called racing green?
Not from 3M or Avery Dennison. Racing green is a look, a deep gloss green, and neither maker’s North American list uses the name, so the wrap is matched from the greens they do sell.
Avery Dennison’s dark greens
Avery’s North American Supreme Wrapping Film overview gives two obvious starting points and a third to compare:
- Gloss Dark Green, SW900-792-O, in its gloss group.
- Pearl Dark Green, SW900-796-S, in its pearl group.
- Gloss Emerald Green, SW900-771-O, also in the gloss group.
3M’s gloss greens
3M’s 2080 brochure lists Gloss Green Envy (G336), Gloss Kelly Green (G46) and Gloss Light Green (G16), plus a High Gloss Green Envy (HG336). None is described as dark in its name, so judge them on a swatch against the Avery pair. If you’d take a flat finish instead, the same brochure has Matte Pine Green Metallic (M206).
Solid, pearl or metallic: which dark green fits you?
It’s a choice between a clean, paint-like colour and one with depth that moves in the light, and it also changes the rated life. Here’s how the main candidates sort out:
| Film | Type, per the maker | Rated life, vertical / horizontal |
|---|---|---|
| Avery Gloss Dark Green, SW900-792-O | Solid colour | 10 / 2 years (Zone 1) |
| Avery Pearl Dark Green, SW900-796-S | Pearl | 5 / 2 years (Zone 1) |
| 3M Gloss Green Envy, 2080-G336 | Flagged metallic, chrome or pearl | 7 / 2 years (Zone 2) |
| 3M Gloss Kelly Green, 2080-G46 | Not flagged | 7 / 2 years (Zone 2) |
Avery’s ratings come from its SW900 data sheet, and its Instructional Bulletin 1.30 counts Canada as Zone 1. The 3M flags are from its 2018 colour palette, where an asterisk marks metallic, chrome or pearl colours. A pearl or metallic green must also go on with every piece facing the same way, since both makers warn that those films look different when turned.
Why does a dark gloss green need gentle washing?
In the shop’s view, a deep gloss colour shows fine scratches more readily than a pale one. For the install itself, 3M’s 2080 product bulletin says gloss and high gloss colours come with a clear film over the face, left in place while the installer works, to reduce surface impressions.
After that, the owner’s habits decide it. For its high gloss films, 3M’s maintenance FAQ says grit has to be rinsed away thoroughly before a gentle wash with a soft cloth or sponge, because dirt and salt pressed into the surface scratch it. For stubborn residue, 3M suggests its Finesse-it polish on glossy 2080 films; most mild scratches, it says, fade on warm, sunny days. A coating isn’t part of the plan: 3M excludes coatings from its wrap warranty, and Avery voids its cover for coatings carrying solvents. The reasons are laid out in ceramic coating over a vinyl wrap.
How does racing green look under Fraser Valley skies?
The shop’s view: under heavy cloud a deep gloss green can read almost black from a distance, and the green comes back in the reflections along the shoulders and hood. In watery light it looks rich rather than bright.
That’s the light it will mostly live in: Abbotsford collects about 1,538 mm of rain and snow a year, according to Environment Canada’s climate normals for 1981 to 2010. On a sunny day a pearl version shows its depth; a solid stays a clean, even green.
Which cars wear racing green?
Long hoods and classic proportions, in the shop’s view: British and European sports cars, grand tourers and retro-styled coupes. It also works on modern SUVs where the owner wants something other than grey or black.
Trim choice changes the character. Chrome with dark green leans traditional; gloss black trim makes it more modern. Tan or cream interiors suit it, so take a look at the swatch with the door open.
What warranty comes with a gloss green wrap?
It depends on the film. On the 3M side, the 2080 warranty card sets one term for all colours in Zone 2, 7 years upright and 2 years flat, and 3M’s zone map places Canada in Zone 2. Avery’s data sheet rates the solid Gloss Dark Green at 10 years vertical and the Pearl Dark Green at 5, both in Zone 1.
On its own site, Brookswood Tint lists a 5-year manufacturer warranty for vinyl. Because the makers’ figures differ from that, ask the shop which term your chosen green carries and have it written on the invoice.
Removal, door jambs and booking
A wrap comes off with heat and a slow peel, followed by adhesive clean-up; the shop’s method is on wrap removal. If your car is a light colour now, the old paint will show inside the doors, so read about wrapping door jambs before you finalise.
Use the quote form for wraps or a text to 604 534 6433, giving one or two green codes plus your car’s year, make and model. A full colour change keeps the car in Unit 312 at 20560 Langley Bypass for 3 to 5 days; its doors are open 9:00 to 17:00 on every day except Sunday.
