What does an Audi R8 cost to tint?
An R8 coupé starts at $220 in LLumar ATC on the sports coupe package, and a Spyder is quoted per car. Upgrading those panes to IRX or AIR ceramic adds a per-package charge.
| R8 glass | Coupé | Spyder |
|---|---|---|
| Glass behind the seats | From $220 | Quoted per car |
| IRX or AIR ceramic on that glass | Quoted per package | Quoted per package |
| Driver’s and passenger’s door windows | $140, not road-legal in BC | $140, not road-legal in BC |
| Full windshield, fitted from inside | $200; only the top 75 mm is legal | $200; only the top 75 mm is legal |
The coupe package is written around three panes, two rear quarters and the back glass, and an R8 has less than that behind its doors. Send the year and body and the shop confirms what yours comes to. Your film comes off a computer plotter already shaped to the R8, so no blade is drawn across its glass or trim, and it’s then heat-shrunk and squeegeed into place by hand. The film is backed by LLumar’s lifetime limited warranty, and the installation by a lifetime warranty from the shop.
Which glass sits behind the driver in an R8?
Very little. On the coupé, each door is followed by bodywork and the sideblade rather than a quarter window, which leaves the rear window between the cabin and the engine bay as the pane behind your head.
The Spyder works differently. Audi’s 2019 R8 exterior design notes say its rear window “is sunk into the CFRP bulkhead separately from the soft top and can be retracted and extended electrically.” The 44 kg fabric top folds in a Z shape onto a flat shelf above the engine and opens or closes in 20 seconds at up to 50 km/h. What you tint on a Spyder, then, is one small power window that moves on its own, whatever the roof is doing.
Spyder owners: that bulkhead window has to stay raised until the film has cured, which takes three to five days, just as a door window would.
Some coupés also show the V10 through glass over the engine. That glass sits over the engine bay rather than the cabin, so mention it with your R8 tint request and it’ll be assessed on the car.
Does the R8’s generation matter for tint?
Mostly because every R8 is now a used car. Audi’s farewell release dates the first generation’s debut to the 2006 Paris Motor Show, adds the Spyder in 2009 and the second generation at Geneva in 2015, and records the last R8 leaving Böllinger Höfe on March 22, 2024, after 45,949 had been built. No new one can be ordered.
A car that has changed hands may already wear film from a previous owner. Old tint comes off with steam rather than blades, priced per window and discounted when new film goes straight back on; tint removal walks through the process.
What does BC law allow on an Audi R8?
An R8’s rear window, coupé or Spyder, may take film as dark as you like, because every R8 has outside mirrors on both sides. No film is allowed on the door windows, and on the windshield it has to end within 75 mm of where the glass meets the roof.
That puts the R8 in an odd spot: most of its glass is the windshield and the two doors, exactly the panes MVAR s. 7.05(8) keeps clear. Door film is still available at $140 if you insist, though on an R8 it’s every bit as illegal as on any other car, and the shop explains what can follow before fitting it: usually a $109 ticket and possibly a police notice ordering the film off and the R8 inspected. The details are on tinting front windows in BC.
Which LLumar film makes sense on an R8?
Choose by what the rear glass is for. Dark ATC gives privacy over the stowage space behind the seats, which Audi’s R8 interior notes put at 226 litres, room for a golf bag.
IRX is the heat choice. LLumar’s performance data sheet rates IRX 05 at 62% total solar energy rejected and IRX 50 at 50%, while the ATC range tops out at 44%, and UV blocking is above 99% across the whole sheet. AIR keeps the pane close to clear, and AIR 80 still transmits 77% of visible light. How the two ceramic lines differ is set out in LLumar IRX versus AIR.
How do you book R8 tint in Langley?
Send the model year, coupé or Spyder, and the film and shade you have in mind, and mention any tint already on the car. An R8 is normally ready the same day.
For the next three to five days nothing that opens should be lowered, a Spyder’s bulkhead pane included; after that, wipe the film with a soft microfibre and a cleaner that contains no ammonia. Use the quote form for R8 tint, or phone 604 534 6433. Protection for the nose and sideblades is on Audi R8 PPF.
