Which ceramic coating package suits an Audi R8?
The one that fits the paint your R8 arrives with. Each package uses the same graphene-ceramic coating and differs in layer count, the correction beneath it and the surfaces included, and the shop prices your car only after inspecting it.
| Package | Correction under it | Layers | What’s coated on an R8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | At least one machine-polish stage | 1 | Painted panels |
| Performance | Two-stage correction | 2 | Paint, wheel faces, glass |
| Signature | Full correction | 4 | Paint, any PPF, wheels, glass, trim |
Every R8 starts the same way: a decontamination wash, clay, and a paint-thickness reading before a polisher comes near it. Correction and curing account for most of an R8’s time in the bay. Once you’ve collected the car it needs 24 hours without rain or washing. Any package can take extras: wheel and caliper coating, a glass coat, or leather and fabric protection inside.
Which parts of an R8 must stay away from the polisher?
The matte ones. Audi’s 2019 R8 exterior notes describe the coupé’s sideblades as having a lightly roughened top layer for a matte look, and the same notes list a matte titanium look as standard on the V10 performance quattro’s exterior package, which dresses the front splitter, sill trims, sideblades and diffuser.
Polishing exists to raise gloss, the opposite of what a matte-effect surface should show, so tell the shop which matte parts your R8 has and agree how each will be handled. The Spyder’s fabric top isn’t paint either: Audi offered it in black, brown or red, according to the R8 V10 performance RWD release, and it sits outside the paint plan. For more on flat finishes, see ceramic coating for matte paint.
How do the R8’s gloss black and carbon parts change the prep?
They’re separate surfaces with their own needs, and the mix on any given R8 depends on its version and options. The high-gloss black exterior package came standard on the R8 V10 quattro, a high-gloss carbon package was offered on both engine versions, and Audi could paint the rings and badges in high-gloss black; on a Spyder that option also blacked out the windshield frame and the air outlets on the top’s storage cover.
Gloss black shows fine marring more readily than most finishes, which is why it deserves a mention at the quote. List every black and carbon piece on your R8 when you book, so their treatment is planned apart from the painted panels. Coating a black car covers why dark finishes show defects first.
Can an R8’s wheels, calipers and glass be coated as well?
Yes, inside a package or as add-ons. On an R8, Performance extends the coating to the glass and wheel faces, Signature goes further to the trim and any film, and wheel and caliper coating can join any of them.
The 2019 R8 release lists 19-inch wheels as standard and fully milled 20-inch wheels as an option, with red calipers available on the steel brakes and grey or red calipers on the ceramic ones. The shop’s view is that a coated wheel doesn’t let brake dust bond as easily, so cleaning the R8’s wheels and calipers takes less scrubbing. Details are on ceramic coating for wheels.
How do you book an R8 ceramic coating in Langley?
Tell the shop your R8’s year, body, colour, engine version and which exterior package it wears, and say whether it already has PPF, because film changes which package makes sense.
Expect the R8 to stay one to three days, then to need a dry first day at home. Ask for your price with the R8 coating request or by phoning 604 534 6433. If you’re weighing coating against film for the nose, PPF versus ceramic coating compares the two, and Audi R8 PPF lists the film packages.
