Which Ascent windows get film, and what does it cost?
Everything behind the front doors, from $260 in LLumar ATC: both second-row door windows, the long quarter windows beside the third row, and the glass in the rear gate. Moving that glass up to IRX nano-ceramic or AIR clear ceramic is priced per package.
| Ascent glass | Film | From |
|---|---|---|
| Second-row doors, third-row quarter windows, rear gate | LLumar ATC dyed | $260 |
| Rear glass, ceramic upgrade | IRX nano-ceramic or AIR | Priced per package |
| Panoramic moonroof (Limited and up) | Any | Quoted per vehicle |
| Front doors | Any | $140, illegal on BC roads |
| Full windshield, inside face | Any | $200, only the top 75 mm is legal |
Each piece is cut on the plotter from the Ascent’s own pattern and shrunk to the curve of the glass with heat, so no blade runs along your glass or rubber seals. LLumar’s lifetime warranty on the film sits alongside the shop’s lifetime warranty on its labour. Every body style’s starting price sits on the window tint price list.
Is the Ascent’s rear glass dark from the factory?
Yes. Subaru’s 2026 Ascent At-A-Glance lists “dark tint privacy glass” in the standard equipment, and the 2027 press kit still names rear privacy glass on the entry Premium. Subaru publishes no light-transmission figure for it.
That missing number is why you should look before you choose. Film and factory tint multiply: on glass passing 20% of the light, IRX 35, which measures 39% on LLumar’s spec sheet, would leave roughly 8%. That’s very dark for reversing a three-row SUV on a wet November night. If the darkness already suits you, AIR 80 adds heat control without much change: it passes 77% of visible light and rejects 60% of infrared energy (IRER). There’s more on reading factory glass in how dark factory privacy glass is.
Should Ascent glass repairs come before the tint?
Yes. Film is bonded to the pane, so any glass Subaru replaces takes its film with it. Three bulletins touch Ascent glass:
- Rear gate glass, 2019–2023. Bulletin 12-254-24 says debris can get past the rear gate seal and wear the paint along the opening into rust. Subaru moved the seal on a redesigned glass, and the repair is a new rear gate glass.
- Door glass, 2019–2024. Bulletin 07-189-21R covers windows that close slowly, stop short, or trip the anti-entrapment feature, with new regulators and stiffer run channel seals. Freshly filmed windows stay up for three to five days, so a sticky window is worth fixing first.
- Windshield, 2019–2022. In bulletin 12-257-25R, Subaru of America stretched coverage on qualifying windshield cracks to eight years or 100,000 miles. It’s a US program, so ask a Subaru Canada dealer whether it applies before you add a top strip.
What about the Ascent’s moonroof and rear sunshades?
The moonroof is quoted separately, and the shades work alongside film. Subaru’s 2027 specifications fit the panoramic power moonroof with sunshade to the Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring and Onyx Edition Touring, while the Premium goes without. The 2026 At-A-Glance describes it as two glass panels.
Those same four trims carry retractable second-row sunshades. A shade only helps while someone has pulled it up; film cuts heat and UV whenever the sun is on the glass, parked or moving. Measuring and pricing roof glass is covered under sunroof and panoramic roof tinting.
What does BC allow on an Ascent’s front doors and windshield?
No film on the front doors and only the top 75 mm of the windshield, under MVAR s. 7.05(8). Every window behind the driver can go any shade, rear gate included, because the Ascent has mirrors on both sides.
Subaru lists sound insulation front door glass on the Ascent, but that changes nothing legally: they’re still front side windows. EyeSight driver assist is standard on every 2027 Ascent trim, and how Subaru’s EyeSight cameras bear on windshield film is covered on the Outback tint page. If you still want the front doors or the whole windshield done, the shop will do it on request, but first it walks you through the downside: the film isn’t road-legal, a traffic stop can mean a $109 ticket and an order to take it off, and an inspection will fail it. Tinting front windows in BC sets out the regulation.
How do you book Ascent tint in Langley?
Send the year and trim, say whether it has the moonroof, and name the film you’re leaning towards. Mention any glass work the dealer has booked. The shop replies with the rear price and any ceramic or roof figure.
Most Ascents are done the same day. Keep the windows closed for three to five days afterwards; a light haze in the first week is normal and clears on its own. Use the Ascent tint quote form or call 604 534 6433.
