What does an XC90 tint job cost?
Tinting the glass behind the front seats costs from $260 in LLumar ATC. On an XC90 that’s the windows in the rear doors, the glass alongside the third-row seats and the tailgate window, all on the shop’s SUV rear package. Ceramic film and the roof are extra and priced from your vehicle.

Each pane’s film comes off the plotter already shaped to the XC90 pattern for your model year, which keeps blades away from the glass and trim, and is then heat-formed to its curve by hand. The film has LLumar’s lifetime limited warranty; the shop’s own lifetime warranty covers the installation. Asking for the roof and sides together usually brings the total under the two list prices added up.
How dark will film look over the XC90’s rear glass?
Darker than the number on the film, if the glass behind the front doors is tinted from the factory, because film and glass multiply. None of the Volvo service documents cited here gives a light-transmission figure for XC90 rear glass, so the starting shade has to be judged on your own SUV.
A rough guide: 20% film over glass that already passes about 20% of the light finishes near 4%. To keep the look the XC90 came with and still cut heat, LLumar’s spec sheet lists AIR 80 as passing 77% of visible light while stopping 60% of infrared energy (IRER). If you’d rather go darker, IRX rejects 50–62% of total solar energy (TSER) depending on shade, against 28–44% for ATC. Hold samples against your own windows in daylight before you settle. Does the XC90’s panoramic roof need its own film?
It can take film, priced separately, and Volvo itself flags the sun that comes through it. A July 2025 Volvo technical journal, TJ 37418, advises keeping the sunroof closed when an XC90 from the 2022 model year on is parked in intense sunlight, because prolonged exposure “may cause deterioration or quality issues in the interior materials.”
There’s a powered sun curtain under the roof glass, and on 2021 models Volvo’s TJ 35640 lists an auto-close setting for it among the driver-profile options. Film is a second layer that stays put when the curtain is open. Which XC90 windows can you tint legally in BC?
All of them behind the driver, in any shade. MVAR s. 7.05(8) puts no darkness limit on side glass behind the driver, and the tailgate window counts too, since the XC90 carries an outside mirror on each side.
The front doors are a front side window whatever glass is in them. Volvo’s TJ 30762 on early 2016–2017 XC90s describes a door rattle where “only vehicles with non-laminated glass can be affected”, so this generation’s front door glass came both ways. Laminated or not, film there fails inspection item 13d, and the shop explains that before anyone books it: the Mission RCMP puts a typical tint ticket at $109, and police can also order the film off and the SUV inspected. On the windshield, only the uppermost 75 mm may carry film. Volvo’s TJ 30646 confirms a head-up display on 2016–2017 XC90s, so say so if yours has one. Send the model year, whether the roof is glass, and the film you’re leaning toward. Volvo’s own service documents label the current body “XC90 (16-)”, meaning 2016 onward, and an older XC90 is cut from a different pattern.
Expect two to four hours for the rear package, longer with the roof or old film to strip. After the appointment, don’t open the side windows for three to five days; that’s the cure time. Slight cloudiness or tiny pockets of moisture can show for up to a week and go away without help.
