How is a Defender coating priced?
Per Defender, once the shop has looked over the paint and listed every finish on it. The three packages share the same graphene-ceramic coating and differ in coats and in the correction done beforehand.
| Package | Coats | Correction first | Also coated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 1 | Not included | Painted surfaces only |
| Performance | 2 | Two-stage | Wheel faces and glass |
| Signature | 4 | Full | Wheels, glass, trim and any PPF |
A Defender stays one to three days and needs 24 hours dry after collection, which is worth planning around in a Fraser Valley autumn. Book through the coating quote form, and see the ceramic coating page for what each package involves.
Can a coating go over Land Rover’s protective film or matte wrap?
It can, but those surfaces are film, not paint, so they’re never machine-polished and the product has to suit them. Land Rover offers Matte Protective Film for Defender paint and, from its July 2026 update, a self-healing Gloss Protective Film; it also sells a Patagonia White Matte Wrap, now on the X and Vertex as well as the V8 and OCTA (JLR, 8 July 2026).
JLR says the gloss film “harnesses the sun’s UV rays to repair micro-scratches over time”, so it already behaves like paint protection film. The shop builds coating over PPF into its Signature package, explained on coating over PPF. A factory matte wrap is vinyl, and vinyl makers can be strict about coatings on their film; coating a vinyl wrap covers the warranty side. Ask your Land Rover retailer whether a coating affects the wrap’s own warranty before booking.
Which Defender finishes aren’t gloss paint?
Several, depending on trim and packs. Land Rover’s own descriptions name these:
| Part | Finish Land Rover names | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Extended front and rear bumpers | Shadow Atlas Matte | Vertex; Extended Exterior Package |
| Front and rear skid pans | Narvik Black | Black Exterior Package |
| Hood | Gloss Black contrast | Defender X |
| Roof | Body colour, or contrasting black or white | Any trim, by order |
| Wheels | Gloss Black, Gloss White, Satin Dark Grey, Diamond Turned | By trim and option |
| Accessory wheel arch protection | Not to be painted: “not designed or approved for use within any paint process” | Retailer-fitted kit |
Sources: JLR, Land Rover Canada options, the Defender 110 specifications, JLR’s 2027 model-year press kit and Land Rover’s SSM76493. Flat and textured parts aren’t machine-polished like gloss paint and need a coating made for them; the matte paint coating page explains why.
Does a Defender need paint correction before coating?
Only where the paint shows it. Paint thickness is measured first, and correction is matched to what the inspection finds: none in Essential, two-stage in Performance, full correction in Signature.
Colour matters here. JLR says the Defender now comes in up to 15 exterior colours, including Namib Orange, added in July 2026, and the Trophy Edition’s Deep Sandglow Yellow or Santorini Black. Dark colours like Santorini Black show swirls first, so they benefit most from correction before a coating locks the finish in; the shop’s view on coating a black car goes into it. Panels under Land Rover’s film or wrap aren’t paint, so paint correction doesn’t apply to them in the same way.
How do you book a Defender coating in Langley?
For a Defender coating quote, give its year, body length (90, 110 or 130), trim and colour, plus anything from the build sheet about protective film, matte wrap, the Extended Exterior or Black Exterior Package and the arch protection. If you’re adding PPF, it goes on before the coating; the Defender PPF page has those packages.
The quote lists the package, the correction, and every surface the coating will and won’t touch. Plan for the Defender to be away one to three days and then kept dry for a day, or phone 604 534 6433 to walk through its finishes first.
