Paint correction pricing

Paint Correction Cost in Langley, BC

At a glance

Paint correction at Brookswood Tint has no fixed price; each car is priced once its paint has been looked at and its thickness measured. The figure follows which of three levels the paint needs: an enhancement polish (one stage, roughly a day), two-stage correction (a day or two), or multi-stage restoration (at least three days, priced only once the shop has inspected the car). Size, colour and paint history move it from there.

Why is paint correction priced after an inspection?

Because what the paint needs, and how much clear coat it has left to work with, can’t be seen on a price list or judged reliably from a phone photo. Brookswood Tint measures paint thickness before any polishing, then chooses the lightest level that will remove the marks.

Two cars of the same model and colour can need completely different work. One may have light wash swirls across every panel; the other may have a resprayed door with thinner paint, water spots etched into the roof and a key scratch on the trunk. The readings and the look under the shop’s lights decide which level each panel gets, and the level decides the hours. A quote made before that check would be a guess, and on thin paint a guess can mean polishing more than the panel can afford to lose.

How do the three correction levels compare on cost?

Each level adds polishing stages, and stages are hours of machine work on every panel. The level is the single biggest thing in your price.

Level What’s done Typical paint it suits Time in the shop How it’s priced
Enhancement polish One stage with a fine polish Light swirls and haze on newer or well-kept paint About a day Per car, after a look at the paint
Two-stage correction A cutting compound, then a finishing polish Deeper swirls, wash marring, water spots, most light scratches 1 to 2 days Per car, after a look at the paint
Multi-stage restoration Wet sanding where it’s safe, heavy compounding, then refining stages Neglected, oxidized or heavily scratched paint with clear coat to spare 3 days or more Only after inspection

The jump from one level to the next isn’t only more time. A cutting stage removes more clear coat than a finishing polish, so the shop won’t move up a level unless the marks call for it. How much clear coat each kind of work takes off, and why it’s a limited budget, is explained in how much clear coat paint correction removes.

What else changes a paint correction quote?

After the level, four things move the figure: the size of the car, its colour, its paint history and whether you want the whole car done or one problem fixed.

Size and shape

More painted surface means more sections to polish. Sharp body lines, vents and tight areas around trim are slower than a flat door.

Colour

Swirls show most on dark paint in direct sun, and marks that almost vanish on silver stay plain on black. If your car is dark, say what standard of finish you’re after, because that decides how far the polishing goes.

Paint history

A respray, earlier machine polishing or a body shop repair can leave some panels thinner than others. Thickness readings find those panels, and they may get a lighter touch than the rest of the car.

The whole car or one flaw

A single scratch on one panel is a different job from light marring over the whole car. If it’s one mark you’re worried about, say so; scratch removal explains which scratches polishing can fix.

Is correction already in your coating or PPF price?

Partly. Every ceramic coating package includes machine polishing, and PPF is fitted over paint that has been cleaned and, where needed, corrected, so ask for one quote that covers both jobs.

If you’re also booking Polishing already in that job Correction added on top
Ceramic coating, Essential At least one machine polishing stage Anything the paint needs beyond that stage
Ceramic coating, Performance A two-stage correction Deeper work, such as multi-stage restoration
Ceramic coating, Signature Full correction Only what the inspection finds beyond the package
Paint protection film Decontamination of the filmed panels Correction when the paint needs it, quoted per car

Correction matters most before film, because PPF locks in whatever is under it. What coating packages cost and include is set out on ceramic coating cost, and film packages on PPF cost.

Is PST charged on paint correction in BC?

Yes. Polishing a vehicle is taxable at 7% PST in BC, with one narrow exception for polishing done as part of a waxing service.

Bulletin PST 118, Vehicle Services and Parts, revised December 2021, puts “Polishing” on its list of taxable services, adding that “vehicle waxing services, including polishing that occurs as part of waxing vehicles, are exempt”. The same list includes “Reconditioning, refinishing or restoring vehicles or parts”. In practice, a polish-and-wax detail and a machine correction can land on different sides of that line, so a cheap detail quote and a correction quote may not carry the same tax. Compare them after tax, and ask each shop whether its figure includes it.

Why do paint correction quotes vary between shops?

Because the names don’t mean the same thing everywhere. “Polish”, “one-step”, “enhancement” and “correction” can describe very different amounts of work, so compare what’s done rather than what it’s called.

  • Stages. Ask how many machine polishing stages the price includes, and what each one is for.
  • Measurement. Ask whether paint thickness is read before polishing and whether you’ll be told the readings.
  • Lighting. Swirls hide in shade. Work checked panel by panel under inspection lighting finds marks that a quick look outdoors misses; that’s how Brookswood Tint works.
  • What’s promised. No honest quote can promise every scratch will go. Anything through the clear coat can’t be polished out, and a shop that says so before starting is telling you something useful.
  • What follows. Correction leaves the paint with nothing on top. Ask whether the price includes any protection afterwards, or whether that’s a separate coating or film job.
  • Tax. Check whether it’s included.

If the damage goes deeper than the clear coat, the comparison you need is with a body shop, set out in paint correction vs respray.

How do you get a paint correction price in Langley?

Send a few daylight photos and the car’s details, and book a look at the paint. The photos narrow down the level; the thickness readings confirm it.

  1. Year, make, model and colour.
  2. Photos in direct sun, close up on the worst swirls or scratches and one from a step back.
  3. Any respray, body repair or earlier polishing you know of.
  4. Whether you want a ceramic coating or PPF afterwards.

Book that look through the paint correction quote request or by phoning or texting 604 534 6433. Allow roughly a day without the car for a single-stage polish, a day or two for two stages, and three days or longer for restoration. For the inspection itself, bring the car to 20560 Langley Bypass, Unit 312; weekday and Saturday hours run nine to five. Each level is described in full on the paint correction page.

Questions about paint correction cost

01Can you price paint correction over the phone?

Only roughly. The level depends on how deep the marks go and how much clear coat is left, which is read on the car with a thickness gauge. Daylight photos narrow it down before you visit.

02Does a bigger car cost more to correct?

Generally, yes, because there's more painted surface to polish at the same level. A small car with neglected paint can still need more work than a large one that's been washed carefully.

03Will polishing remove rock chips?

No. A chip is paint that has gone, not a mark in the clear coat, so polishing can't fill it. Chips need touch-up paint or a body shop.

04If I book a coating afterwards, do I pay for polishing twice?

Ask for both on one quote. Every coating package already includes polishing, so the quote can show what the paint needs beyond the package's own stage.
