What does back window tint cost?

Rear-only tint is priced by body shape: $220, $240 or $260 in LLumar ATC dyed film, depending on whether the vehicle is a sports coupe, a sedan or pickup, or a full-size SUV or wagon. Each package takes in every window behind the driver for that shape.

Rear package Windows LLumar ATC (dyed) LLumar IRX or AIR (ceramic)
Sports coupe 3 From $220 Priced per package
Sedan or pickup 5 From $240 Priced per package
Full-size SUV or wagon 7 From $260 Priced per package

Every package is genuine LLumar film, cut on the computerized plotter from your vehicle’s own pattern without a blade ever touching the glass or the trim, then shrunk with heat and fitted by hand. The film and the workmanship both carry a lifetime warranty. A body the three shapes don’t describe, such as a van, a compact crossover, a regular cab pickup or a car with unusual back glass, is priced from the vehicle itself. Diagrams of every package sit on the window tint prices page.

Which windows count as the back windows in BC?

Every pane behind the driver. MVAR s. 7.05(8) permits film behind the driver on any side window, and on the rear window of a vehicle with outside mirrors left and right; apart from those, the only glass it permits is a 75 mm band along the top of the windshield.

The 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual draws the line at the seat. Item 13d’s tint test stops at the driver’s seat back: aftermarket film on side glass forward of it fails, while the rear doors, quarter windows and third-row glass behind it face no darkness test. BC sets no percentage, which means 5% on the rear doors is as lawful as 50%. Measured light for each shade sits in the darkness answer for BC.

In BC: the back glass carries conditions the rear side windows don’t. Item 14c of the inspection manual fails rear-window film on a vehicle without an outside mirror on each side, “tint or sunscreen other than that allowed by ANSI/SAE Z26.1 standards”, “any tint that is reflective type”, and tint where the “driver’s normal vision is materially impaired”.

Why do drivers choose rear-only tint?

Because it’s the complete legal set. Rear-only tint gives the back seat and the cargo area privacy, shade and UV protection, and with both outside mirrors fitted it stays within the regulation.

  • Inside the tint rule. Mission RCMP says a tint ticket typically comes to $109. Officers can also write a Box 2 Notice & Order that makes you strip the film and get the car inspected within 30 days or face a $598 fine. Film behind the driver, with both outside mirrors fitted, is what s. 7.05(8) allows.
  • Nothing to strip before a sale. Motor Vehicle Act s. 222 forbids selling a vehicle that doesn’t comply with the Act or its regulations. Legal rear film simply stays on when the car changes hands.
  • Privacy where it counts. The back seat and cargo area hold the passengers and belongings you’d rather keep out of view, and that’s the glass this covers.
  • UV for passengers. The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that side and rear windows are tempered, a kind of glass that does a poor job of stopping UVA. Every LLumar film on the shop’s menu stops more than 99% of UV.

The shop will fit front door film if you ask, $140 on a sedan, coupe or wagon and $160 on a full-size SUV or pickup. Film there breaks BC’s rule whatever the shade, near-clear AIR included, and the shop explains the ticket and inspection risk before anyone decides. Tinting front windows in BC sets out that rule in full.

What does each rear package cover?

The three packages follow the three common body shapes, and each one stops at the driver’s seat back.

Sports coupe package: $220 for three windows

Both rear quarter windows and the back glass. A two-door coupe has no rear doors, so the quarters behind the doors and the back glass are all the glass it has behind the driver, which is why this package is the smallest.

Sedan and pickup package: $240 for five windows

Both rear door windows, the rear quarter windows where the body has them, and the back glass. On a pickup the back glass is often a sliding window, and the slider is one of the five. Sedan glass shapes are covered on the sedan window tint page, cab styles on the truck window tint page.

Full-size SUV and wagon package: $260 for seven windows

Both rear door windows, the rear quarters, the extended windows beside the third row or cargo floor, and the hatch glass. Much of that glass may already be factory privacy glass, which changes how a shade will look; the SUV window tint page explains how the two layers combine.

Is ceramic film worth it on just the rear glass?

On a car that only gets rear tint, ceramic is the way to get more heat out of the glass the law lets you film. At a similar shade, LLumar IRX turns back far more solar and infrared energy than dyed ATC, and AIR 80 matches IRX on infrared rejection with almost no darkening.

LLumar film Light transmitted (VLT) IR energy rejection (IRER) Total solar energy rejected (TSER)
ATC 15, dyed 18% 22% 40%
IRX 15, ceramic 20% 61% 59%
AIR 80, near-clear 77% 60% 43%

LLumar’s performance data sheet lists those figures for one clear 6 mm pane, so your own windows will read a little differently. The bigger the rear glass area, the more the upgrade has to work with: a seven-window SUV with a large hatch gains more than a coupe with three small panes. The shop prices the ceramic version of your package separately, and the films are compared in detail on ceramic window tint.

How do you book rear-only tint in Langley?

Start with the vehicle: year, make and model. Then say whether you want every window behind the driver or only some of them, and pick a film and shade. Check that both outside mirrors are on the vehicle and intact, since the back glass depends on them. The shop replies with the package price and, if you ask, the ceramic figure next to it.

Most cars are tinted the same day. Leave the rear windows closed for three to five days so the film can cure; a faint haze or a few water pockets during the first week are normal and evaporate. Use ammonia-free cleaner on a soft microfibre, and never scrape the film, least of all on back glass with a defroster grid. Got old film on the car? Rear window tint removal explains how the grid is protected. Book through the rear tint quote form; the shop also takes calls and texts at 604 534 6433.

Questions about back window tint

01Can I tint only the back windshield and leave the rear side windows clear?

Yes. BC allows film on the rear window by itself when there's an outside mirror on each side and the film meets inspection item 14c. The posted packages price the full set behind the driver, so a single back glass is quoted for your vehicle.

02Do the rear packages include the little quarter windows?

Yes, wherever the body has them. The coupe package is built around its two quarter windows, the SUV package counts its quarters among the seven, and the sedan and pickup package includes them when they're fitted.

03Will rear-only tint keep the whole car cool?

It cools the back of the cabin most, because the windshield and front doors still let the sun in. Choosing IRX ceramic for the rear glass gets the most heat rejection out of the windows you're allowed to film.

04My car is missing its passenger-side mirror. Can I still tint the back glass?

Fix the mirror first. MVAR s. 7.05(8)(c) ties back-glass film to a vehicle that has mirrors outside on both its left and right, and inspection item 14c fails the car without them. The rear side windows don't carry that condition.

05My vehicle isn't a coupe, sedan, pickup or full-size SUV. How is it priced?

It's quoted from the vehicle. Minivans, compact crossovers, regular cab pickups, vans and cars with unusual back glass don't match the three posted shapes, so tell the shop what you drive and it will price that body.
