Land Rover Defender Window Tint in Langley, BC

At a glance

On a Land Rover Defender 110 or 130, the shop's SUV rear-glass package puts LLumar ATC on every window from the rear doors to the tail door from $260; IRX or AIR ceramic is priced on top per package, and the two-door Defender 90 gets its own quote. The tail door glass can take film of any shade in BC because every Defender has outside mirrors on both sides. Film on a Defender's front doors ($140) or whole windshield ($200) goes on only at the owner's request, and neither is legal on BC roads.

What does it cost to tint a Defender?

For a Defender 110 or 130, $260 buys LLumar ATC from the rear door windows back through the tail door glass. The 90 is quoted from its own glass, and ceramic film costs more on any body.

Defender glass Film From
110 or 130: rear doors, quarter glass, tail door LLumar ATC, 5 to 50% $260
The same windows in ceramic LLumar IRX or AIR Quoted per package
90: glass behind the doors Any of the three Quoted per vehicle
Sliding panoramic roof IRX or AIR Quoted per vehicle
Driver’s and passenger’s door glass Any film $140, illegal on BC roads
Full windshield, inside face Any film $200, illegal on BC roads

That covers genuine LLumar film plotter-cut to the Defender’s pattern, heat-shrunk by hand with no blade on the glass, and a lifetime warranty on both film and workmanship. Booking the whole Defender in one go is normally quoted for less than its packages cost one by one. Before choosing a shade, check how dark the factory glass already is: film multiplies with it, so 20% film on 20% glass ends near 4%. How dark factory privacy glass is explains the maths.

Which windows does each Defender body have behind the front doors?

It depends on the body. Land Rover sells the Defender 90 with “two doors, with seating for five”, and the 130 with “seating up to eight passengers” (Land Rover USA); the 110 sits between them as the five-door.

On the 110, the window behind each rear door is fixed, and Land Rover’s technicians call it the “6th light glass”. A 2020 service message (SSM 74962) describes rear door seals catching on top of that glass, and a 2024 bulletin covering 2020 to 2024 five-door Defenders built in Nitra, Slovakia, says the seal can touch the quarter window and make the doors hard and noisy to open (JLRTB02052NAS4). If your doors catch, have the dealer adjust them before film goes on, so a rubbing seal isn’t blamed on the tint.

At the back, Land Rover’s own note on 2020 to 2023 Defenders says the tail door window is tempered glass, and “rock or BB strikes will shatter” it; the broken glass can stay in the frame until a door slams (Land Rover service note).

Does the ClearSight mirror change how dark the tail door can go?

Not legally, and not when you use it as a plain mirror. Land Rover says its ClearSight rear view mirror gives “a full view behind” from a camera when the cargo area is piled high, and notes that drivers can switch back to normal mirror mode at any time (Land Rover Canada, Defender 110).

In mirror mode you are looking out through the tail door glass, so the shade you pick still affects the view at night. BC’s rule ignores the inside mirror and looks for mirrors outside on both sides; BC’s outside-mirror condition explains it.

Can a Defender’s roof be tinted?

Only where the roof has glass in it. Land Rover Canada offers a “solid roof, folding fabric roof or sliding panoramic roof”, in body colour or contrasting black or white (options and accessories), and its current Defender 110 specification lists the sliding panoramic roof as standard on the X (models and specifications).

There’s a second kind of roof glass too. JLR’s 2027 model-year press kit lists “Alpine light windows in the roof” among the familiar trademarks its designers carried forward (JLR press kit). A painted panel or the fabric itself can’t take film, but panoramic glass and any Alpine light panes are quoted per vehicle and plotter-cut like the side windows. How the shop prices roof glass is on its sunroof and panoramic roof tint page.

What does BC law allow on a Defender?

Any darkness behind the driver, the tail door glass included, and nothing on the front doors. MVAR s. 7.05(8) permits film on side glass behind the driver, on a rear window where both outside mirrors are fitted, and only on the windshield’s top 75 mm.

Film on the front door glass, clear film included, fails inspection item 13d, and item 14c rejects reflective film on the rear window. The shop fits front doors for $140 if asked, but a ticket typically costs $109, and police may also issue a Notice & Order sending the Defender for inspection once the film is off; you’ll hear that before you decide. The shop’s front window tint rules page has the rest.

How do you book Defender tint in Langley?

Send the year, the body (90, 110 or 130), the roof type and the film you’d like, and say whether the rear glass already looks dark. You’ll get the Defender’s rear package price back, plus what ceramic would add and a roof figure where the roof is glass.

Most SUVs leave the same day; two to four hours is typical. Don’t lower the Defender’s rear door glass for three to five days after tinting; any haze in week one is curing moisture that clears. For a Defender price, fill in the tint quote form or dial 604 534 6433; broader SUV glass questions are answered on the SUV window tint page.

Questions about defender window tint

01Is the Defender 90 priced the same as a 110?

Not automatically. The $260 package is built around seven windows on a vehicle with rear doors, and the 90 has two doors, so its glass is measured and quoted on its own.

02Can film go back on a replacement tail door window?

Yes, once the new glass is fitted. Film can't be saved from shattered tempered glass, so a replaced tail door pane is tinted again from scratch and quoted as a single window.

03How dark can a Defender's tail door glass go in BC?

Any shade. It counts as the rear window, and since every Defender carries an outside mirror on each side, the tail door qualifies. Inspectors still reject reflective film on that glass.

04Does a Defender with the folding fabric roof need roof tint?

The fabric itself can't take film. If your Defender has Alpine light windows in the roof, those small panes are glass and can be quoted on their own, just as a sliding panoramic roof would be.
