How is a ceramic coating priced for a Model Y?

Each one is priced from the car itself, because the paint’s condition moves the price more than the badge does. The paint thickness is measured first, then the shop recommends a package and any correction it needs.

Package What it involves
Essential One graphene-ceramic coat on the paint, with correction only if the inspection calls for it
Performance Two coats after a two-stage polish, extended to the wheel faces and the glass
Signature Four coats after full correction, extended to film, complete wheels, glass and trim

Allow one to three days for the visit and 24 hours out of the rain once you collect the car. Send the year, colour and a few photos in daylight on the coating quote form and the shop will tell you which package fits.

Which paint finishes does Tesla list for the Model Y?

Metallic and tricoat metallic, and on 2025+ cars nothing else. The paint-code table in Tesla’s 2025+ Model Y service manual lists no solid colour, where the 2020–2024 table still includes Solid Black.

Build Metallic Tricoat metallic Other
2025+ Model Y Coastal Blue, Cosmic Silver, Diamond Black, Frost Blue, Glacier Blue, Marine Blue, Stealth Gray Pearl White Multi-Coat, Pearl White Pro Multi-Coat, Quicksilver, Ultra Red None listed
2020–2024 table Deep Blue, Midnight Silver, Silver, Stealth Gray Pearl White Multi-Coat, Quicksilver, Red Multi-Coat, Ultra Red Midnight Cherry Red (quadcoat metallic), Solid Black (solid)

Both tables describe Tesla colours generally, so not every entry was sold on a Model Y in Canada. What they tell you is that most Model Y paint has metallic flake or extra colour layers under the clear coat. The coating bonds to that clear coat and doesn’t change the colour; what it changes is how readily the surface sheds rain and road film.

What else on a Model Y can take a coating?

Wheels and glass, and Tesla’s own documents say something useful about each. At the Performance level the wheel faces are coated and Signature does the complete wheel, and the 2025+ table shows what the wheels are made of: the 18-inch Aperture is listed as a wheel and a wheel trim, one in Void Black paint and the other “black plastic, not painted”. The 19-inch Crossflow pairs Armor Black with Phantom Metallic, and the 21-inch Arachnid is Incognito. Tell the shop which set you have; wheel coating explains what it covers.

The windshield already carries a coating from Tesla. Its camera-cleaning procedure warns that unapproved IPA wipes “may damage the hydrophobic coating on the windshield”, and the forward cameras look through the top of that glass. Since Performance and Signature both include glass, ask how the windshield will be treated before you book; glass coating sets out how the shop approaches it.

Does a new Model Y need correction before it’s coated?

Not always, and the paint gauge decides. A coating seals in whatever sits beneath it, swirls and all, so marks left by earlier washing are best polished out first. If the paint measures healthy and looks clean, Essential may be enough; if it’s marked, Performance or Signature build the correction in.

There’s no published evidence that a Model Y’s paint is softer than other cars’, a question covered on whether electric cars have softer paint. The details on prep are on paint correction before a coating.

How do you book a Model Y coating in Langley?

Give the year, trim, colour and wheel size, and tell the shop about any PPF, fitted or planned. Coating always follows film, so if you’re planning Model Y PPF as well, book the two together and the coating can cover film and paint in one visit.

Questions about tesla Model Y ceramic coating

01Where do I find my Model Y's paint code?

Tesla says the code is shown in the car's Car Details on the touchscreen, and it may also be printed on a label on the vehicle. Include it when you ask for a coating quote.

02Will a coating stop rock chips on the front of a Model Y?

No. A coating is a thin layer that helps paint shed water and dirt; it isn't thick enough to absorb a stone. Chip protection is a job for paint protection film, which can be coated over.

03Can a Model Y that already has PPF be coated?

Yes. Signature is built for it: the film is fitted first, then one session of coating covers film, paint, wheels, glass and trim.

04Does a white Model Y need a different coating from a black one?

The coating is the same. What can differ is the prep, which follows the condition of your paint as the shop finds it under light and with a paint gauge, whatever the colour.
