What does track day PPF cost, and what does it cover?
The package built for it is the Track Package, from $1,900 in LLumar Platinum. It takes everything in a Full Front and adds three zones no front package reaches: both A-pillars, the roof’s leading section and the sills below the doors.
| What gets film | Package | From | Days in the shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bumper, headlights, mirrors, plus the whole hood and both front fenders | Full Front | $1,550 | Usually 1–2 |
| The same front coverage, then the A-pillars, the front lip of the roof and both sills | Track Package | $1,900 | 1–2, the same visit length |
| Each painted panel, headlights included | Full Vehicle | $4,000 | 3–5 |
Pieces are cut from a software pattern matched to your model, laid by hand and wrapped around panel edges where the shape allows. The paint gets decontaminated and a thickness reading before film touches it, and polishing comes first if it needs it. What the car finally costs depends on how big it is, how intricate its panels are and how the paint looks, so a car with a deep splitter, vents or add-on aero can land above the starting figure. The full panel-by-panel breakdown is on the Track Package page.
Why does a track car need more than front-end film?
Because on track you spend whole sessions following other cars at speed, and what comes off their tires doesn’t only hit your nose. It reaches the windshield pillars, the leading edge of the roof and the sills behind your own front wheels, which is the coverage the Track Package adds.
The time on track adds up quickly. The Sports Car Club of BC describes its driver training as a three-day course with “one day of classroom instruction and two days of on-track instruction”, in which “the speed is slowly increased with each session, until the student is comfortable driving the track at racing speeds.” Students bring their own street cars to it. Two days of sessions is a lot of laps through the same debris, in the car you drive to work on Monday.
Will insurance pay for paint damage from a track day?
Don’t count on it. ICBC’s optional policy, where collision and comprehensive cover sit, lists track use among the situations it doesn’t apply to, and film is the protection you arrange before the event rather than a claim you make after it.
Section 3.2 of ICBC’s consolidated addendum to the Autoplan Optional Policy says the policy does not apply to “a vehicle being used in a contest, show or race, or in advanced or performance driver training”, if the activity is held “on a track or other location temporarily or permanently closed to all other vehicle traffic” and “there exists an element of race or speed test”. The same clause defines that element as “driving at high speed”, including “passing maneuvers, driving in close proximity to another vehicle or assessing vehicle limitations in speed, acceleration, turning or braking.”
Whether a given event meets that wording depends on its details, so put the question to ICBC or your broker before you go; this page isn’t legal or insurance advice. The clause doesn’t mention film, and what can and can’t be said about ICBC and PPF on public roads is set out in does ICBC cover paint protection film.
Platinum or Platinum Extra for a car that laps often?
Every package price is for LLumar Platinum, the shop’s standard film. If the car is on track most weekends of the season, ask about Platinum Extra when you request a quote.
LLumar ranks Platinum Extra as the thickest film in its range and describes it as “thicker than traditional PPF”; its product page names track racing first among its uses, ahead of gravel roads and harsh weather. It shares Platinum’s heat-healing top coat and is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. Neither film has a published thickness, so the comparison rests on LLumar’s description rather than a measurement. Both are part of the LLumar Platinum PPF line.
When should the film go on before an event?
Leave room for the install plus a week before the car’s first wash, and more if the paint needs correcting. Working back from the event date is the simplest way to plan it.
| Step | Typical time |
|---|---|
| One-stage enhancement polish, only when needed | Roughly a day |
| Two-stage correction, for heavier marks | 1 to 2 days |
| Track Package install | 1 to 2 days |
| Before the first wash | A week (LLumar’s own FAQ says three days) |
Mission Raceway Park’s event list shows when SCCBC’s driver-training days run on its road course. Count back from your first event: the install, plus a week before the first wash, needs to fit before you load up. The months between seasons are the unhurried time to book.
What won’t PPF do for a track car?
It won’t stop a heavy strike from denting a panel, and it can’t heal a cut. Light surface scratches fade as sun or engine heat warms the top coat; a stone that slices through the film leaves damage that needs that piece replaced.
- Carbon fibre parts: LLumar’s PPF FAQ says film can be fitted to carbon fibre, but because carbon isn’t factory paint, any problem there is outside its warranty. If your splitter, canards or wing are carbon, say so when you book.
- The warranty list: the shop’s warranty terms cover four defects (yellowing, cracking, bubbling, peeling), all of them about how film ages. Damage done at an event isn’t among them; can damaged PPF be patched explains the repair options.
- The windshield: no exterior windshield film is offered, so the glass faces the circuit unprotected.
- Headlights: every package films them, and BC’s 2025 Vehicle Inspection Manual gives “covered in any manner” as grounds to reject a lamp (Section 6, item 1.0(a)), so even clear film there could be queried at a BC inspection.
Preparing the rest of the car (tech inspection, brakes, tires and what to check between sessions) is covered step by step in the track day prep guide.
Booking track day protection in Langley
Tell the shop the car’s year, make and model, the events you’re planning, gloss or matte, and any carbon fibre or repainted panels, using the PPF quote request, or by calling 604 534 6433, a number that also takes texts. Photos of chips already on the nose help the shop judge whether polishing comes first.
Expect $1,900 as the Track Package’s starting figure and a day or two without the car. The shop, at 20560 Langley Bypass, Unit 312, takes drop-offs from 9:00, Monday through Saturday; it closes at 17:00. For a supercar with wings, vents and sharp bodywork, see PPF for exotic cars; for the full price list, see PPF cost.
